And a man is a weaver from a people of weavers and also 'ḥawakah', and it is from the irregular forms deviating from the consistent analogy in usage; the 'waw' remained sound in it because they likened the vowel of the middle letter to the 'alif' that follows it, which is a soft letter, so it is as if 'fa'ala' became 'fa'aal'. Just as 'jawāb' and 'jawād' are sound, so too are 'bāb al-ḥawkah', 'al-qawd', and 'al-ghayb' sound, in that the vowel of the middle letter was likened to the 'alif' that follows it. Do you not see how the vowel of the middle letter, which is the cause of vowel change, has become, in another way, a cause for soundness?
