And 'ḥanaka' the animal: to rub its palate/jaw until it bled.
والمحنك والحناك: الخيط الذي يحنك به.
And 'al-miḥnak' and 'al-ḥināk': the rope with which it is led/controlled.
والحناك: وثاق يربط به الأسير، وهو غل، كلما جذب أصاب حنكه؛
And 'al-ḥināk': a tether with which a captive is bound, and it is a shackle, whenever pulled, it hits his jaw.

The 'taḥnīk' is to 'tuḥannika' the animal by inserting a stick into its upper palate/jaw or the tip of its horn until it bleeds for an event that occurs in it.
وفي حديث النبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم: أنه كان يحنك أولاد الأنصار ؛ قال: والتحنيك أن تمضغ التمر ثم تدلكه بحنك الصبي داخل فمه؛
And in the hadith of the Prophet, peace be upon him: that he used to perform 'taḥnīk' for the children of the Ansar; he said: And 'taḥnīk' is to chew a date then rub it on the child's palate/jaw inside his mouth.
وفي حديث ابن أم سليم لما ولدته وبعثت به إلى النبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم: فمضغ له تمرا وحنكه أي دلك به حنكه.
And in the hadith of Umm Sulaym when she gave birth to him and sent him to the Prophet, peace be upon him: so he chewed a date for him and 'ḥanaka' him, meaning he rubbed his palate/jaw with it.
وأخذ بحناك صاحبه إذا أخذ بحنكه ولبته ثم جره إليه.
And he took his companion by his 'ḥināk' if he took him by his jaw and his chest and pulled him towards him.
وحنك الدابة يحنكها ويحنكها: جعل الرسن في فيها من غير أن يشتق من الحنك؛
And 'ḥanaka' the animal, 'yaḥnikuhu' and 'yuḥannikuhu': to put the rein in its mouth without it being derived from the palate/jaw.
ويقال: أحنك الشاتين وأحنك البعيرين أي آكلهما بالحنك؛
And it is said: 'aḥannaka' the two sheep and 'aḥannaka' the two camels, meaning to eat them with the palate/jaw.
واحتنك الجراد الأرض: أتى على نبتها وأكل ما عليها.
And 'iḥtanaka' the locusts the land: they came upon its vegetation and ate what was on it.
يقول لأستولين عليهم إلا قليلا يعني المعصومين؛
He says: I will surely seize them all except a few, meaning the protected ones.
لم أجد لجاما فاحتنكت دابتي أي ألقيت في حنكها حبلا وقدتها.
I did not find a bridle, so I 'iḥtanaktu' my mount, meaning I threw a rope into its mouth and led it.
والتحنك: التلحي، وهو أن تدير العمامة من تحت الحنك.

And in the hadith of Talha: that he said to Umar, may Allah be pleased with them: The matters have 'ḥannakat' you, meaning they have trained and refined you, it is said with lenition and doubling, and its origin is from 'ḥanaka' the horse, 'yaḥnikuhu', if a rope is placed in its lower jaw to lead it.

And a man 'muḥtanak' and 'ḥanīk': experienced, as if he is on a palate/jaw, even if not used.
وحنكت الشيء: فهمته وأحكمته.
And 'ḥanaktu' the thing: I understood it and mastered it.
وقال الليث: يقولون هم أهل الحنك والحنك والحنكة أي أهل السن والتجارب.
And Al-Layth said: They say they are the people of 'al-ḥanak', 'al-ḥanak', and 'al-ḥankah', meaning people of age and experience.

And 'al-ḥankah': the elevated mound overlooking the rocky ground.
وقال أبو خيرة: الحنك آكام صغار مرتفعة كرفعة الدار المرتفعة، وفي حجارتها رخاوة وبياض كالكذان.
And Abu Khayrah said: 'Al-ḥanak' are small, elevated mounds like the height of an elevated house, and in their stones is softness and whiteness like sand dunes.
والحنكة والحناك: الخشبة التي تضم الغراضيف، وقيل: هي القدة التي تضم غراضيف الرحل.
And 'al-ḥankah' and 'al-ḥināk': the wood that joins the saddle parts, and it is said: it is the strap that joins the parts of the saddle.
