والبريكان: أخوان من العرب، قال أبو عبيدة: أحدهما بارك والآخر بريك، فغلب بريك إما للفظه، وإما لسنه، وإما لخفة اللفظ.

And al-Buraykan: are two brothers from the Arabs. Abu Ubaydah said: One of them is Barik and the other is Burayk, and Burayk prevailed, either because of its sound, or its age, or the lightness of the word.

And Dhu Burkan: is a place;

وبرك: من أسماء ذي الحجة؛

And Barak: is among the names of Dhu al-Hijjah;

Ibn Barrī said: And Barak al-Ghimad [al-Ghimad] is a place in Yemen.

وإن أرواح الكافرين فيه، وحكى ابن خالويه عن ابن دريد أن برك الغماد بقعة في جهنم،

And the souls of the unbelievers are in it. Ibn Khālawayh narrated from Ibn Durayd that Barak al-Ghimad is a spot in Hell,

ولو دعوتنا إلى برك الغماد ؛

Even if you called us to Barak al-Ghimad;

وأنشد ابن دريد لنفسه: وإذا تنكرت البلاد، ... فأولها كنف البعاد واجعل مقامك، أو مقرك ... جانبي برك الغماد

And Ibn Durayd recited for himself: And if the lands become unfamiliar, ... then the furthest part of them is the distant edge. And make your stay, or your dwelling ... beside Barak al-Ghimad

لو أمرتها أن تبلغ بها برك [برك] الغماد [الغماد] ، بفتح الباء وكسرها، وتضم الغين وتكسر، وهو اسم موضع باليمن،

If you ordered her to reach with it Barak [Barak] al-Ghimad [al-Ghimad], with a fatha and kasra on the ba', and a damma and kasra on the ghayn, and it is the name of a place in Yemen,

وقيل: هو موضع وراء مكة بخمس ليال.

And it was said: It is a place five nights beyond Mecca.
