And 'al-malik' is derived from it, and its origin is 'ma'lak', then the hamza was inverted to the position of the lam, so it was said 'mala'ak', then the hamza was lightened by casting its vowel onto the preceding silent letter, so it was said 'malak'.
فلست لإنسي، ولكن لملأك ... تنزل من جو السماء يصوب
You are not for a human, but for an angel ... descending from the heavens to rain down.
والجمع ملائكة، دخلت فيها الهاء لا لعجمة ولا لنسب، ولكن على حد دخولها في القشاعمة والصياقلة
And the plural is 'mala'ikah', the 'ha' entered it not due to foreignness or lineage, but like its entry in 'al-qusha'imah' and 'al-sayaqilah'.
وقد قالوا الملائك
And they have said 'al-mala'ik'.
هي المألكة والملأكة على القلب

والملائكة: جمع ملأكة ثم ترك الهمز فقيل ملك في الوحدان، وأصله ملأك كما ترى
And 'al-mala'ikah' is the plural of 'mala'akah', then the hamza was omitted, so 'malak' was said for the singular, and its origin is 'mala'ak' as you see.
جاء فلان قد استألك مألكته
So-and-so came having carried his message.
