إذا كثرت المؤتفكات زكت الأرض
When the turbulent winds increase, the land becomes fertile.
وجون خرق بالرياح مؤتفك
And a vast, open space, tossed about by the winds.
وأرض مأفوكة: وهي التي لم يصبها المطر فأمحلت.
And a parched land: which is that which rain has not reached, so it has become barren.
ائتفكت تلك الأرض أي احترقت من الجدب
That land was 'i'tafakat', meaning it was scorched by drought.
كأنها، وهي تهاوى تهتلك، ... شمس بظل، ذا بهذا يأتفك
As if it, while falling and being destroyed, ... is a sun in shade, this turning into that.
والمأفوك: المأفون وهو الضعيف العقل والرأي.
And al-ma'fuk: is al-ma'fun, which is the weak in intellect and opinion.
يؤفن عنه من أفن.
He is weakened in intellect from him who is weakened.
وأفن الرجل: ضعف رأيه، وأفنه الله.
And afana al-rajul: his opinion weakened, and Allah weakened him.
وأفك الرجل: ضعف عقله ورأيه
And afaka al-rajul: his intellect and opinion weakened.
ما لي أراك عاجزا أفيكا؟
Why do I see you as incapable and lacking resolve?
ورجل مأفوك: لا يصيب خيرا.
And a man is ma'fuk: he does not achieve good.
وأفكه: بمعنى خدعه.
And afakahu: meaning he deceived him.
