لولا سخاء فيك ومقك الله عليه لشردت بك

يقال: ومق يمق، بالكسر فيهما، مقة، فهو وامق وموموق.
It is said: wamq yamquq, with kasrah in both, maqqah, so he is a lover and loved.
وفرق بين الوماق والعشق، فقال: الوماق محبة لغير ريبة، والعشق محبة لريبة؛
And he differentiated between al-wumaq and al-'ishq, and said: Al-wumaq is love without suspicion, and al-'ishq is love with suspicion;
وماذا عسى الواشون أن يتحدثوا ... سوى أن يقولوا: إنني لك وامق؟
And what can the gossips say ... other than saying: Indeed, I am a lover for you?
إن البلية من تمل حديثه، ... فانقع فؤادك من حديث الوامق
Indeed, the affliction is from one who tires of his talk, ... so quench your heart from the talk of the lover
وضع الوامق موضع الموموق كما قال:
He placed the lover in the position of the loved one as he said:
الأرواح جنود مجندة فما تعارف منها ائتلف وما تناكر منها اختلف.
Souls are recruited armies; those that recognized each other from them united, and those that did not recognize each other from them differed.
ورجل وامق ووميق؛ حكاه ابن جني؛
And a man is wamiq and wumiq; Ibn Jinni narrated it;
سقى دار سلمى، حيث حلت بها النوى، ... جزاء حبيب من حبيب وميق
May the dwelling of Salma be watered, where the separation settled, ... as a reward from a loving beloved
يقال ومقت فلانا أمقه وأنا وامق وهو موموق، وأنا لك ذو مقة وبك ذو ثقة.
It is said: I loved so-and-so, I love him, and I am a lover, and he is loved, and I have affection for you and trust in you.
