Abu Mansur said: And my hearing from the Arabs is that al-nahq is wild arugula. He said: I saw it in the meadows of Al-Saman, and we used to eat it with dates. It has pungency and heat in its taste, and it is arugula itself, except that it is wild and stings the tongue, and it is called al-ayhaqan, and it grows most abundantly near springs;
وقال أبو حنيفة: هو من العشب؛ قال رؤبة ووصف عيرا وأتنه: شذب أولاهن من ذات النهق
And Abu Hanifa said: It is from the grasses; Ru'bah said, describing a wild ass and its she-ass: She trimmed the first of them from Dhat Al-Nahq.
وقيل: ذات النهق أرض معروفة.
And it was said: Dhat Al-Nahq is a known land.
وذو نهيق: موضع؛ قال:
And Dhu Nahīq: a place; he said:
ألا يا لهف نفسي بعد عيش ... لنا بجنوب در، فذي نهيق
Oh, how I regret my soul after a life ... we had in the south of Dar, then Dhi Nahīq.
وفي حديث جابر: فنزعنا فيه حتى أنهقناه ، يعني الحوض، هكذا جاء في رواية بالنون، قال: وهو غلط والصواب بالفاء.
And in the hadith of Jabir: So we drew water into it until we أنْهَقْنَاه (filled it up), meaning the basin. This is how it came in the narration with a noon, he said: And this is a mistake, and the correct is with a faa'.
