وَتَلَاقَ القَوْمُ: تَلَاءَمَتْ أُمُورُهُمْ
And the people 'talaqaqu': their affairs became harmonious.
وَأَحَادِيثُ مُلَفَّقَةٌ أَي أَكَاذِيبُ مُزَخْرَفَةٌ
And 'muallafaqah' hadith means embellished lies.
وَيُقَالُ لِلرَّجُلَيْنِ لَا يَفْتَرِقَانِ هُمَا لَفَقَانِ
And for two men who do not separate, they are called 'lafagan'.
تَأَفَّقْتُ بِكَذَا وَتَلَفَّقْتُ أَي لَحِقْتُهُ
I pursued such-and-such and 'talafaqtu', meaning I caught up to it.
وَاللِّفَاقُ الَّذِي لَا يُدْرِكُ مَا يَطْلُبُ
And 'al-lifaq' is one who does not achieve what he seeks.
تَلْفِقُ فُلَانٌ وَلَفَقَ أَي طَلَبَ أَمْرًا فَلَمْ يُدْرِكْهُ
'Fulān' 'talafaqa' and 'lafaga', meaning he sought something and did not attain it.
وَالدِّيكُ الصَّفَاقُ: الَّذِي يَضْرِبُ بِجَنَاحَيْهِ إِذَا صَفَّقَ
And the 'ṣafāq' rooster is one that flaps its wings when it makes a sound.
