And a bow is laḥiq and milḥāq: fast-shooting, it does not aim for anything except that it reaches it.
وَإِنَّهُ لَحِقٌ أَيْ ضَمَرَ
And indeed, it is laḥiq, meaning it became thin.
فَرَسٌ لَاحِقُ الْأَيْطَلِ مِنْ خَيْلٍ لَحِقَ الْأَيَاطِلِ إِذَا ضَمَرَتْ
A horse with lean flanks, from horses with lean flanks when they become thin.
وَالْمُلْحَقُ: الدَّعِيُّ الْمُلْصَقُ
And the mulḥaq: the adopted one who is attached.
وَاسْتَلْحَقَهُ أَيْ ادَّعَاهُ
And he claimed him: meaning he adopted him.
فَقَدْ لَحِقَ بِمَنِ اسْتَلْحَقَهُ
Then he has joined the one who claimed him.
