And Al-Fahqah: a bone near the base of the skull overlooking the uvula, and the plural of all of that is Fahāq, and it is the bone that falls on the uvula, so it is said the boy's fahqah has fallen; Ru'bah said: he may strike the fahqah until it dislocates, meaning he may strike the nape until the fahqah falls from the inside.
والفهقة: عظم عند مركب العنق وهو أول الفقار؛ قال القلاخ: وتضرب الفهقة حتى تندلق
And Al-Fahqah: a bone at the joint of the neck, which is the first vertebra; Al-Qallākh said: and the fahqah is struck until it dislocates.
وفهقت الرجل إذا أصبت فهقته؛ قال ثعلب: أنشدني ابن الأعرابي: قد توجأ الفهقة حتى تندلق، ... من موصل اللحيين في خيط العنق
And I struck the man if I hit his fahqah; Tha'lab said: Ibn Al-A'rābī recited to me: The fahqah may be struck until it dislocates, ... from the joint of the jaws in the nape of the neck.
وفهق الصبي: سقطت فهقته عن لهاته،
And the boy's fahqah fell: his fahqah fell from his uvula,
أصل الفهق الامتلاء، فمعنى المتفيهق الذي يتوسع في كلامه ويفهق به فمه.
The origin of Al-Fahq is fullness, so the meaning of Al-Mutafayhiq is one who expands in his speech and opens his mouth wide with it.
وفي الحديث: إن أبغضكم إلي الثرثارون المتفيهقون قيل: يا رسول الله، وما المتفيهقون؟ قال: المتكبرون ، وهو يتفيهق في كلامه؛ وتفسير الحديث هم الذين يتوسعون في الكلام ويفتحون به أفواههم، مأخوذ من الفهق وهو الامتلاء والاتساع.
And in the Hadith: Indeed, the most hated of you to me are the garrulous, the pompous. It was said: O Messenger of Allah, and what are the pompous? He said: The arrogant, and he is pompous in his speech; the interpretation of the Hadith is those who expand in speech and open their mouths with it, derived from Al-Fahq, which is fullness and expansion.
يقال: أفهقت الإناء ففهق يفهق فهقا.
It is said: I filled the vessel, so it became full, it fills, it fills with fullness.
وفي حديث جابر: فنزعنا في الحوض حتى أفهقنا.
And in the Hadith of Jabir: So we drew water from the basin until we were exhausted (filled).
وفي حديث علي، عليه السلام: في هواء منفتق وجو منفهق ؛ وقال الأعشى: تروح على آل المحلق جفنة، ... كجابية الشيخ العراقي تفهق
And in the Hadith of Ali, peace be upon him: in an open air and a wide atmosphere; And Al-A'sha said: An evening meal for the family of Al-Muhallaq, ... like the cistern of the Iraqi sheikh, it fills.
يعني الامتلاء.

الفراء: بات صبيها على فهق إذا امتلأ من اللبن.
Al-Farra': Her child slept full (on fahq) if he was full of milk.
وتفيهق في كلامه: توسع وتنطع.
And he spoke pompously in his speech: he expanded and was pretentious.
فهق الغدير بالماء يفهق فهقا: امتلأ.
The pond filled with water, it fills, it fills with fullness: it became full.
وأفهقه: ملأه.
And I made it full: I filled it.
وأفحقه: كأفهقه على البدل؛ وأنشد يعقوب لأعرابي اختلعت منه امرأته واختارت زوجا غيره فأضرها وضيق عليها في المعيشة، فبلغه ذلك فقال يهجوها ويعيبها بما صارت إليه من الشقاء: رغما وتعسا للشريم الصهصلق ... كانت لدينا لا تبيت ذا أرق، ولا تشكى خمصا في المرتزق، ... تضحي وتمسي في نعيم وفنق لم تخش عندي قط ما إلا السنق، ... فالرسل در، والإناء منفهق
And I made it full: like I made it full, as a substitute; And Ya'qub recited for a Bedouin whose wife divorced him and chose another husband, which harmed her and made her life difficult, and this reached him, so he satirized her and criticized her for the misery she had fallen into: Reluctantly and miserably for the wide-mouthed one... She used to spend the night with us without sleeplessness, nor complain of hunger in her livelihood, ... She would spend her morning and evening in comfort and luxury, she never feared anything from me except illness, ... the messengers were milk, and the vessel was full.
والفهق والفهق: اتساع كل شيء ينبع منه ماء أو دم.
And Al-Fahq and Al-Fahq: the wideness of everything from which water or blood flows.
وطعنة فاهقة: تفهق بالدم.
And a gushing wound: it gushes with blood.
وتفيهق في الكلام: توسع، وأصله الفهق وهو الامتلاء كأنه ملأ به فمه.
And he spoke pompously in speech: he expanded, and its origin is Al-Fahq, which is fullness, as if he filled his mouth with it.
والفاهقة: الطعنة التي تفهق بالدم أي تتصبب وانفهقت الطعنة والعين والمثعب وتفهق، كله: اتسع.
And Al-Fāhiqah: the wound that gushes with blood, meaning it pours, and the wound, the eye, and the water channel widened, and it became wide, all of it: it became wide.
ابن الأعرابي: أرض فيهق وفيحق، وهي الواسعة؛ قال رؤبة: وإن علوا من فيف خرق فيهقا ... ألقى به الآل غديرا ديسقا
Ibn Al-A'rābī: A wide and spacious land; Ru'bah said: And if they ascend from a barren plain, a wide expanse ... the mirage casts a wide pool there.
وانفهق الشيء: اتسع؛ وأنشد: وانشق عنها صحصحان المنفهق
And the thing widened: it became wide; And he recited: And the wide desert split open from it.
قال: ومنه يقال تفيهق في الكلام وتفهق أي توسع فيه وتنطع؛ قال الفرزدق: تفيهق بالعراق أبو المثنى، ... وعلم قومه أكل الخبيص
He said: And from this it is said Tafayhaqa in speech and Tafahaqa, meaning to expand in it and be pretentious; Al-Farazdaq said: Abu Al-Muthanna spoke pompously in Iraq, ... and taught his people to eat Al-Khabīṣ.
الأزهري: انفهقت العين وهي أرض تنفهق مياها عذابا؛ قال الشاعر: وأطعن الطعنة النجلاء عن عرض، ... تنقي المسابير بالإرباد والفهق
Al-Azhari: The spring gushed forth, and it is land that gushes with sweet water; The poet said: And I strike the wide wound across, ... cleaning the intestines with redness and width.
والفيهق: الواسع من كل شيء. ومفازة فيهق: واسعة.
And Al-Fayhaq: the wide of everything. And a wide desert: spacious.
يقال: هو يتفيهق علينا بمال غيره.
It is said: He boasts to us with the wealth of others.
قال قرة بن خالد: سئل عبد الله بن غني عن المتفيهق فقال: هو المتفخم المتفتح المتبختر.
Qurrah ibn Khalid said: Abdullah ibn Ghani was asked about Al-Mutafayhiq, so he said: He is the one who is pompous, ostentatious, and swaggering.
وفي حديث: أن رجلا يخرج من النار فيدنى من الجنة فتتفهق له أي تتفتح وتتسع.
And in the Hadith: A man will come out of the fire and be brought near to Paradise, and it will open up for him, meaning it will open and widen.
والفيهق: البلد الواسع. ورجل متفيهق: متفتح بالبذخ متسع.
And Al-Fayhaq: the wide country. And a pompous man: ostentatious with extravagance and expansion.
ابن الأعرابي: كل شيء توسع فقد تفهق.
Ibn Al-A'rābī: Everything that expands has become wide.
وبئر مفهاق: كثيرة الماء؛ قال حسان: على كل مفهاق خسيف غروبها، ... تفرغ في حوض من الماء أسجلا
And a well that is abundant in water: abundant in water; Hassan said: Upon every abundant well, its flowing water, ... pours into a wide pool of water.
والغروب هاهنا: ماؤها. وتفيهق في مشيته: تبختر، وتفيحق كتفيهق على البدل.
And Al-Ghurūb here: its water. And he swaggered in his walk: he strutted, and Tafayhaqa is like Tafayhaqa as a substitute.
والمنفهق: الواسع؛ وأنشد: والعيس فوق لاحب معبد، ... غبر الحصى منفهق عمرد
And Al-Munfahiq: the wide; And he recited: And the camels upon a trodden, dusty path, ... covered with pebbles, a wide expanse of land.
وفهق الإناء بالكسر، يفهق فهقا وفهقا إذا امتلأ حتى يتصبب.
And the vessel became full (with kasr), it fills, it fills with fullness and fullness: if it became full until it overflowed.
وأفهقت السقاء: ملأته.
