أَحَاطَ بِهِمْ سَرادِقُها، وَإِنْ يَسْتَغِيثُوا يُغاثُوا بِماءٍ كَالْمُهْلِ يَشْوِي الْوُجُوهَ —
Its enclosure surrounded them, and if they cry for help, they will be given water like molten brass that scalds the faces —
فِي صِفَةِ النَّارِ أَعَاذَنَا اللهُ مِنْهَا —
in description of Hellfire, may Allah protect us from it —
صَارَ عَلَيْهِمْ سَرادِقٌ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ —
an enclosure of torment became upon them —
والسَّرادِقُ: كُلُّ مَا أَحَاطَ بِشَيْءٍ نَحْوَ الشِّقَّةِ فِي الْمِضْرَبِ أَوْ الْحَائِطِ الْمُشْتَمِلِ عَلَى الشَّيْءِ —
And the saradaq: everything that surrounds something, like a partition in a tent or a wall encompassing a thing —
وَقَدْ وَرَدَ فِي الْحَدِيثِ ذِكْرُ السَّرادِقِ فِي غَيْرِ مَوْضِعٍ، وَهُوَ كُلُّ مَا أَحَاطَ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ حَائِطٍ أَوْ مِضْرَبٍ أَوْ خِبَاءٍ —
And the saradaq has been mentioned in the hadith in more than one place, and it is everything that surrounds something, whether a wall, a tent, or a pavilion —
وَقَالَ بَعْضُ أَهْلِ التَّفْسِيرِ فِي قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى: وَظِلٌّ مِنْ يَحْمُومٍ؛ هُوَ مِنْ سَرادِقِ أَهْلِ النَّارِ —
And some of the exegetes said regarding His saying, the Almighty: 'and a shade of black smoke'; it is from the saradaq of the people of Hellfire —
وهُوَ أَنْ يَكُونَ أَعْلَاهُ وَأَسْفَلُهُ مَشْدُودًا كُلُّهُ —
and it is that its top and bottom are both tightly secured —
هُوَ الْمُدْخِلُ النُّعْمَانَ بَيْتًا، سَمَاؤُهُ ... صُدُورُ الْفُيُولِ، بَعْدَ بَيْتٍ مُسَرَّدَقٍ —
He is the one who brought Nu'man into a house, whose ceiling was ... the chests of elephants, after an enclosed house —
وَالْجَوْهَرِيُّ: السَّرادِقُ وَاحِدُ السَّرادِقاتِ الَّتِي تُمَدُّ فَوْقَ صَحْنِ الدَّارِ —
And Al-Jawhari: The saradaq is the singular of the saradaqat that are stretched over the courtyard of the house —
وَكُلُّ بَيْتٍ مِنْ كُرْسُفٍ فَهُوَ سَرادِقٌ —
And every house made of cotton is a saradaq —
سَرادِقُ الْمَجْدِ عَلَيْكَ مَمْدُودٌ —
The saradaqat of glory are extended over you —
وَقِيلَ: الرَّجَزُ لِلْكَذَّابِ الْحَرْمَازِيِّ، وَأَنْشَدَ بَيْتًا لِلأَعْشَى —
And it was said: The verse is by Al-Kadhdhab Al-Harmazi, and he recited a verse by Al-A'sha —
وَالرَّفَعْنَ سَرادِقًا فِي يَوْمِ رِيحٍ —
And they raised a saradaq on a windy day —
يَصِفُ حُمْرًا —
describing wild asses —
يَصِفُ عَيْرًا يَطْرُدُ عَانَةً —
describing a wild ass chasing a herd —
