والريق ماء الفم غدوة قبل الأكل ويؤنث في الشعر فيقال ريقتها

And الرِّيق is the mouth's moisture in the morning before eating, and it is feminized in poetry, so one says ريقتها.

والريق الرضاب، والريقة أخص منه

And الرِّيق is spittle, and الرِّيقة is more specific than it.

وكأن طعم مدامة عانية ... شمل الرياق، وخالط الأسنانا

And as if the taste of a fine wine... encompassed the spittle and mixed with the teeth.

And the ريق of everything is its best and its beginning; you say: the ريق of youth and the ريق of rain, and it may be shortened to ريق.

We praised for her the ريق of youth, so she countered... the side of youthfulness in one who conceals a secret, unarticulated.

Meaning an admirable ريق, referring to a horse; and it was said: the ريق of rain is its side and its edge; it is said: his ريق was upon us and his redness upon the sons of so-and-so; and his redness: its greatest part, and it is said: the ريق of rain is the beginning of its downpour; Ibn Sīdah said: and the ريق of youth is its beginning, and it was said: its origin is indeed Wāw, and the ريق of the night is its beginning.

ألجأه رعد من الأشراط، ... وريق الليل إلى أراط

A thunderclap from the signs drove him to seek refuge, ... and the ريق of the night towards Arāt.

فأدنى حماريك ازجري، إن أردتنا، ... ولا تذهبي في ريق ليل مضلل

So bring your two donkeys closer, scold them if you want us, ... and do not go off into a misleading ريق of the night.

يجوز أن يعنى بالريق أول الشيء وأن يعنى به السراب لأنه مما يكنون به عن الباطل

It is permissible for الرِّيق to mean the beginning of a thing, and for it to mean the mirage because it is something by which they allude to falsehood.

وراق السراب يريق ريقا إذا لمع فوق الأرض، وتريق مثله

And the mirage shimmered, pouring out a shimmer, when it gleamed above the earth, and تريق is similar.

وذهب ريقا أي باطلا

And he went ريقا, meaning in vain.

حماريك سوقي وازجري، إن أطعتني، ... ولا تذهبي في ريق لب مضلل

Drive your donkeys and scold them if you obey me, ... and do not go off into a misleading ريق of the mind.

ويقال: أقصر عن ريقك أي عن باطلك

And it is said: desist from your ريق, meaning from your falsehood.

التِّرْيَاق is a noun of the pattern تِفْعَال, named from الرِّيق because of the ريق of snakes in it, and it is not said ترياق, and one says دِرْيَاق.

وكان هذا الأمر وبنا ريق أي قوة، وكذلك كان هذا الأمر وبنا رمق وبلة كله الرخاء والرفق

And this matter occurred, and we had ريق, meaning strength, and likewise this matter occurred, and we had a remnant and a bit of moisture, all of it ease and gentleness.

حتى إذا شم الصبا وأبردا، ... سوف العذارى الرائق المجسدا

Until when he smelled the east wind and cooled down, ... the maidens awaited the pleasing, perfumed one.

قيل: أراد بالرائق ثوبا قد عجن بالمسك، والمجسد المشبع صبغا؛ وقيل: الرائق الشباب الذي يروقها حسنه وشبابه

It was said: he meant by الرَّائِق a garment that had been kneaded with musk, and المجسد is one saturated with dye; and it was said: الرَّائِق is the youth whose beauty and youth please them.

وفي حديث علي فإذا بريق سيف ، يروى بفتح الراء وكسر الباء، من راق السراب إذا لمع

And in the saying of Ali: 'And there was the بَرِيق of a sword', it is narrated with a fatḥa on the Rā' and a kasra on the Bā', from راق the mirage when it gleamed.

لم أسمع أحدا إلا يقول: بريق سيف من ورائي يعني بكسر الباء وفتح الراء
