And it is said: The garden is a pit in the valley that holds water, and every depression that holds water in the valley, even if there is no water in its belly, it is a garden.
وفي التنزيل: وحدائق غلبا .
And in the Revelation: and lush gardens.
وكل بستان كان عليه حائط، فهو حديقة، وما لم يكن عليه حائط لم يقل له حديقة.
And every orchard that had a wall around it, it is a garden, and what did not have a wall around it was not called a garden.
وحديق الروض: ما أعشب منه والتف.
And the lushness of the meadow: what has grown green and dense in it.
يقال: روضة بني فلان ما هي إلا حديقة ما يجوز فيها شيء.
It is said: So-and-so's meadow is nothing but a garden through which nothing can pass.
وقد أحدقت الروضة عشبا، وإذا لم يكن فيها عشب فهي روضة.
And the meadow has become lush with grass, and if there is no grass in it, it is a meadow.
وفي الحديث: سمع من السحاب صوتا يقول اسق حديقة فلان.
And in the Hadith: He heard a voice from the clouds saying, 'Water so-and-so's garden.'
والحدقة: السواد المستدير وسط العين، وقيل: هي في الظاهر سواد العين وفي الباطن خرزتها.

قال: حداقها أراد الحدقة وما حولها كما يقال للبعير ذو عثانين ومثله كثير.
He said: its pupils, he meant the pupil and what is around it, as is said for a camel with two humps, and many examples are like this.
والحدق جماعة الحدقة، وهي في الظاهر سواد العين وفي الباطن خرزتها، قال: وقال غيره السواد الأعظم في العين هو الحدقة والأصغر هو الناظر، وفيه إنسان العين، وإنما الناظر كالمرآة إذا استقبلتها رأيت فيها شخصك.
And the pupils are the group of the pupil, and it is outwardly the blackness of the eye and inwardly its bead. He said: And others said the largest blackness in the eye is the pupil and the smaller is the pupil, and in it is the human of the eye, and the pupil is like a mirror; if you face it, you see your image in it.
وقولهم في حديث الأحنف: نزلوا في مثل حدقة البعير أي نزلوا في خصب، وشبهه بحدقة البعير لأنها ريا من الماء،
And their saying in the Hadith of Al-Ahnaf: They descended into something like the pupil of a camel, meaning they descended into abundance, and he likened it to the pupil of a camel because it is full of water.
والحندوقة والحنديقة: الحدقة، قال ابن دريد: ولا أدري ما صحتها.
And Al-Hunduqah and Al-Hundiqah: the pupil, Ibn Duraid said: And I do not know its authenticity.
وأراد أمرا شديدا تحدق منه الرجال.
And he meant a severe matter from which men would stare.
فحدقني القوم بأبصارهم أي رموني بحدقهم، جمع حدقة.
And the people stared at me with their eyes, meaning they threw their pupils at me, the plural of pupil.
وحدق فلان الشيء بعينه يحدقه حدقا إذا نظر إليه.
And so-and-so stared at a thing with his eye, staring at it, if he looked at it.
وحدق الميت إذا فتح عينيه وطرف بهما، والحدوق المصدر.
And the dead person stared if he opened his eyes and moved them, and Al-Hudooq is the مصدر (verbal noun).
ورأيت الميت يحدق يمنة ويسرة أي يفتح عينيه وينظر.
And I saw the dead person staring to the right and left, meaning opening his eyes and looking.
وقد حدلق الرجل إذا أدار حدقته في النظر.
And the man has moved his pupils around if he moved his pupils while looking.
والحدق: الباذنجان، واحدتها حدقة، شبه بحدق المها؛
And Al-Hadq: eggplants, its singular is Hadqah, likened to the pupils of oryxes;
