أنت تئق وأنا مئق فكيف نتفق؟
You are 'ta'iq' and I am 'ma'iq', so how can we agree?
يقول: أنا ممتلئ من الغيظ والحزن وأخي سريع البكاء فلا يقع بيننا وفاق.
He says: I am full of anger and sadness, and my brother is quick to cry, so there is no accord between us.
التئق السريع إلى الشر والمئق السريع البكاء، ويقال: الممتلئ من الغضب،
Al-Ta'iq is quick to evil, and Al-Ma'iq is quick to cry; and it is said: full of anger,
أصمع الكعبين مهضوم الحشا، ... سرطم اللحيين معاج تئق
Sharp of the ankles, hollow of the belly, ... broad of the jawbones, intense of the legs.
والمتأق أيضا: الحاد؛
And Al-Muta'iq is also: sharp;
وتئق الرجل إذا امتلأ غضبا وغيظا، ومئق إذا أخذه شبه الفواق عند البكاء قبل أن يبكي؛
And a man becomes 'ta'iq' if he is filled with anger and rage, and 'ma'iq' if he is seized by something like a hiccup when crying before he cries;
كأنما عولتها، من التأق، ... عولة ثكلى ولولت بعد المأق

التئق الملآن شبعا وريا، والمئق الغضبان؛
Al-Ta'iq is full from satiety and drink, and Al-Ma'iq is angry;
فيُمر الرجل كشد الفرس التئق الجواد أي الممتلئ نشاطا.
So a man passes like the speed of an energetic, spirited horse, meaning full of vigor.
