The na'f of the land: the elevated place in an oblique direction.
And it was said: it is what slopes down from the base and is rugged, having ascent and descent.
And it was said: it is a side of its summit.
And it was said: the na'f is what slopes down from the ruggedness of the mountain and is higher than the course of the torrent.
And like it is the khayf.
And it was said: the na'f is what rises from the valley to the land and is not rugged, and likewise the na'f of the hill.
Like the slippery places on the na'f of the hill.
And it was said: the na'f is what slopes down from the ruggedness of the mountain and is higher than the slope of the valley; so what is between them is na'f, sarw, and khayf.
And the plural is ni'af.
And the na'f of the sand dune: its front and what is thin of it.
I traversed the thin part of Ma'qilah's sand dune.
He means what is thin of its sand.
And the plural of all of that is ni'af.
And ni'af is na'f, for exaggeration: like bitah is bat'h.
I took the pathway to the summit, and followed it, and reached its vicinity, and its ascent, and its leader; all of this is its tract.
And the man ascended: he climbed a na'f.
And the na'fah: the top part of the sandal.
And the na'fah: a piece of leather attached behind the front part of the saddle.
And the na'fah and nu'fah: a piece of leather that flaps behind the rear of the saddle from its top, and it is the 'adhbah and the dhu'abah.
I saw Al-Aswad bin Yazid wrapped in a cloak, then he tied the fringe of the cloak to the na'fah of the saddle.
And it was said: it is a remnant of the saddle's covering, split into straps and placed on its rear.
And I left the thing: I abandoned it for something else.
And I opposed the road: I went against it.
And the na'fah in the sandal: the strap that strikes the back of the foot from its outer side.
And it is said: weak, na'if, as a follow-up word for it.
And al-inti'af: the clarity and visibility of a person.
From where did the rider become clear? Meaning, from where did he become visible and from where did he appear.
And the munta'af: the border between the rugged ground and the plain.
In a borderland between the ruggedness and the plain.
