And it was said: Al-nijaf are the ravines of the lava field into which water pours.
يقال: أصابنا مطر أسال النجاف.

أن حسان بن ثابت، رضي الله عنه، دخل عليها فأكرمته ونجفته أي رفعت منه.
That Hassan bin Thabit, may God be pleased with him, entered upon her, so she honored him and 'najafathu' him, meaning she elevated him.
والنجفة: شبه التل؛
And al-najfah: like a hillock;
أنه جلس على منجاف السفينة ؛ قيل: هو سكانها الذي تعدل به، سمي به لارتفاعه.
That he sat on the minjaf of the ship; it was said: it is its rudder by which it is steered, named for its elevation.
ونجفة الكثيب: إبطه وهو آخره الذي تصفقه الرياح فتنجفه فيصير كأنه جرف منجوف؛

Al-nijaf is the threshold and the door frame.
والنجاف الذي يقال له الدوارة، وهو الذي يستقبل الباب من أعلى الأسكفة، والنجاف العتبة وهي أسكفة الباب.
And al-nijaf is that which is called al-dawwarah, which faces the door from above the sill, and al-nijaf is the threshold, which is the sill of the door.
فيقول أي رب قدمني إلى باب الجنة فأكون تحت نجاف الجنة ؛ قيل: هو أسكفة الباب، وقال الأزهري: هو درونده يعني أعلاه.
So he says, 'O Lord, advance me to the gate of Paradise, so I may be under the nijaf of Paradise'; it was said: it is the door sill, and Al-Azharī said: it is its upper part, meaning its top.
والنجاف أيضا شمال الشاة الذي يعلق على ضرعها.
And al-nijaf is also the strap of a ewe that is tied to its udder.
وقد أنجف الرجل إذا شد على شاته النجاف.
And a man has performed 'injafa' if he tightens the nijaf on his ewe.

A person's nijaf is his cloak.
نجاف التيس جلد يشد بين بطنه والقضيب فلا يقدر على السفاد، يقال: تيس منجوف.
The nijaf of a buck is a skin tied between its belly and its penis so it cannot mate; it is said: a manjuuf buck.
نجاف التيس أن يربط قضيبه إلى رجله أو إلى ظهره، وذلك إذا أكثر الضراب يمنع بذلك منه.
The nijaf of a buck is to tie its penis to its leg or its back, and this is done when it mates excessively to prevent it.
وغار منجوف أي موسع.
