فلان لحمه كفاف لأديمه إذا امتلأ جلده من لحمه
So-and-so's flesh is sufficient for his skin when his skin is full from his flesh.
نكف نأخذ في كفتها، وهي ناحيتها، ثم ندعها ونحن نقدر عليها
We take from its side, meaning its vicinity, then we leave it while we are able to.
نفقته الكفاف أي ليس فيها فضل إنما عنده ما يكفه عن الناس
His expenditure is sufficiency, meaning there is no surplus; he only has what suffices him from people.
إذا لم يكن عندك فضل لم تلم على أن لا تعطي أحدا
If you do not have a surplus, you are not blamed for not giving to anyone.
اللهم اجعل رزق آل محمد كفافا
O Allah, make the provision of the family of Muhammad sufficient.
وددت أني سلمت من الخلافة كفافا: لا علي ولا لي
I wished that I could be free from the caliphate with sufficiency: neither for me nor against me.
يضيء كفافا، ويخبو كفافا
It flashes brightly, and it fades away, each time just enough.
