فأما الرحمة فالناشرات والذاريات والمرسلات والمبشرات، وأما العذاب فالعاصف والقاصف وهما في البحر، والصرصر والعقيم وهما في البر.

As for mercy, they are the scattering, the driving, the sent, and the bringers of good news; as for torment, they are al-aasif and al-qasif, and they are in the sea, and al-sarsar and al-'aqim, and they are on land.

فيرسل عليكم قاصفا من الريح ؛ أي ريحا تقصف الأشياء تكسرها كما تقصف العيدان وغيرها.

So He sends upon you a qasif from the wind; meaning a wind that qasafa things, breaking them as it breaks sticks and other things.

وثوب قصيف: لا عرض له.

And a qasif garment: it has no width.

والقصف والقصفة: هدير البعير وهو شدة رغائه.

And al-qasf and al-qasfa: the roaring of a camel, which is the intensity of its braying.

A camel roars, yaqsifu qasfan wa qusoofan wa qaseefan: it bares its teeth and bellows in its throat.

وله قصيف مخافة أن يضربه بعصاه ، أي صوت هائل يشبه صوت الرعد؛

And he had a qasif (frightening sound) for fear that He would strike him with His staff, meaning a terrifying sound resembling the sound of thunder;

And from it is their saying: qasif thunder, meaning intense and destructive for its sound.

هم الذين يزدحمون حتى يقصف بعضهم بعضا، من القصف الكسر والدفع الشديد، لفرط الزحام؛

They are those who crowd until some of them break each other, from al-qasf meaning breaking and intense pushing, due to excessive crowding;

يريد أنهم يتقدمون الأمم إلى الجنة وهم على إثرهم بدارا متدافعين ومزدحمين.

الانقصاف الاندفاع.

Al-inqisaf: the surging forward.

يقال: انقصفوا عنه إذا تركوه ومروا؛

It is said: they inqasafu 'anhu if they leave him and pass by;

معنى الحديث أن النبيين يتقدمون أممهم في الجنة والأمم على أثرهم يبادرون دخولها فيقصف بعضهم بعضا أي يزحم بعضهم بعضا بدارا إليها.

The meaning of the hadith is that the prophets precede their nations into Paradise, and the nations follow them, rushing to enter, and some of them qasifu each other, meaning they push each other in their haste to get there.

سمعت قصفة الناس أي دفعتهم وزحمتهم؛

I heard the qasfat al-nas, meaning their pushing and crowding;

كقصفة الناس من المحرنجم

Like the qasfa of people from the crowded mass.

أي أن استسعادهم بدخول الجنة وأن يتم لهم ذلك أهم عندي من أن أبلغ أنا منزلة الشافعين المشفعين، لأن قبول شفاعته كرامة له، فوصولهم إلى مبتغاهم آثر عنده من نيل هذه الكرامة لفرط شفقته، صلى الله عليه وسلم، على أمته.

Meaning their happiness in entering Paradise and their achieving that is more important to me than my reaching the station of accepted intercession, because the acceptance of his intercession is an honor for him, so their reaching their goal is more preferred to him than attaining this honor due to his extreme compassion, peace be upon him, for his Ummah.

كان يصلي ويقرأ القرآن فتتقصف عليه نساء المشركين وأبناؤهم أي يزدحمون.

He used to pray and recite the Quran, and the women and children of the polytheists would taqasafu upon him, meaning they would crowd.

لما قدم المدينة قال: تركت بني قيلة يتقاصفون على رجل يزعم أنه نبي.

When he came to Medina, he said: I left the Banu Qaylah taqasafu around a man who claims to be a prophet.

شيبتني هود وأخواتها قصفن علي الأمم أي ذكر لي فيها هلاك الأمم وقص علي فيها أخبارهم حتى تقاصف بعضها على بعض، كأنها ازدحمت بتتابعها.

Hud and its sisters have aged me; the nations were qasifat upon me, meaning the destruction of nations was mentioned to me in it, and their stories were told to me until some of them taqasafat upon each other, as if they were crowding in their succession.

ورجل صلف قصف: كأنه يدافع بالشر.

And a stubborn, qasif man: as if he is pushing away evil.

وانقصفوا عليه: تتابعوا.

And they inqasafu upon him: they followed one another.
