And the aghdaf among beasts is one whose ear tip is broken and its base is relaxed, and a ghadhfaa ear, and I make it aghdhaf, and its ear became anghadhifa if it broke unnaturally, and ghudifa if it was natural, and al-ghudf is its natural breakage;

إنما عنى بالمنغضف الضباب الذي بعضه فوق بعض.

And he lived ghadafa ghudufan: his state was comfortable, so he is ghadhif.

والغاضف: الناعم البال؛ وأنشد: كم اليوم مغبوط بخيرك بائس، ... وآخر لم يغبط بخيرك غاضف

And al-ghadhif: the one with a comfortable life; and he recited: How many today are envied for your good fortune, while another is not envied for your good fortune, he is ghadhif.

وعيش أغضف وغاضف: واسع ناعم رغد بين الغضف.

And a life is aghdaf and ghadhif: wide, comfortable, pleasant, and abundant.

سنة غضفاء إذا كانت مخصبة.

وغضف الفرس وغيره يغضف غضفا: أخذ من الجري بغير حساب.

والغضف: شجر بالهند يشبه النخل ويتخذ من خوصه جلال، وقال الليث: هو كهيئة النخل سواء من أسفله إلى أعلاه سعف أخضر مغشى عليه ونواه مقشر بغير لحاء؛

And al-ghadaf: a tree in India resembling a palm, from whose fronds coverings are made. And al-Layth said: it is like a palm tree from its base to its top, with green fronds covered, and its pits are peeled without bark;

وتتخذ من خوصه حصر أمثال البسط تسمى السمام، الواحدة سمة، وتفترش السمة عشرين سنة.

And from its fronds, mats are made like carpets, called al-simam, one is a simah, and the simah is spread for twenty years.
