فقال: نعم عوفك يا أبا سلمة فقلت: وعوفك فنعم أي نعم بختك وجدك، وقيل: بالك وشأنك.

So he said: 'May your 'awf be good, O Abu Salama.' And I said: 'And may your 'awf be good.' Meaning, may your luck and fortune be good. And it is said: may your state and affairs be good.

تعوف الأسد: التمس الفريسة بالليل،

فعندها قال المنذر: لا حر بوادي عوف أي أنه يقهر من حل بواديه، فكل من فيه كالعبد له لطاعتهم إياه.
