وفي حديث جريج: كانت سنتهم إذا ترهب الرجل منهم ثم طنف بالفجور لم يقبلوا منه إلا القتل ، أي اتهم.
And in the hadith of Jurayj: their custom was that if a man among them became a monk, then he committed acts of immorality, they would not accept anything from him except death, meaning he was accused.
يقال: طنفته فهو مطنف أي اتهمته فهو متهم.
It is said: I accused him, so he is mutannaf, meaning I suspected him, so he is suspected.
والطنف: الفاسد الدخلة، طنف طنفا وطنافة وطنوفة.
And al-tanf: the corrupt in nature; tanafa, tanfan, tanafatan, and tanufatan.
والطنف والطنف والطنف والطنف: ما نتأ من الجبل، وهو نحو من الحيد، وقيل: هو شاخص يخرج من الجبل فيتقدم كأنه جناح.
And al-tanf (various vocalizations): what protrudes from the mountain, and it is like a cliff, and it is said: it is a prominence emerging from the mountain that extends forward like a wing.
قال أبو منصور: ومن هذا يقال طنف فلان جدار داره إذا جعل فوقه شجرا أو شوكا يصعب تسلقه لمجاورة أطراف العيدان المشوكة رأسه،
Abu Mansur said: And from this is said, so-and-so made his house wall tanf when he placed trees or thorns on top of it, making it difficult to climb due to the proximity of the thorny branches at its top,
وقيل: هو بالتحريك الحيد من الجبل ورأس من رؤوسه، والمطنف الذي يعلوه؛
And it is said: it is, with vowelization, a cliff of the mountain and one of its peaks, and al-mutannaf is that which is above it;
كأن حفيف النبل من فوق عجسها ... عوازب نحل أخطأ الغار مطنف
As if the rustling of arrows from above its hindquarters... were swarms of bees that missed the cave, a mutannaf.
والطنف: إفريز الحائط.
And al-tanf: the cornice of the wall.
والطنف والطنف: السقيفة تشرع فوق باب الدار، وهي الكنة وجمعها الكنان، وقيل: هو ما أشرف خارجا عن البناء.
And al-tanf (and al-tanf): the canopy that extends over the door of the house, and it is al-kunnah, and its plural is al-kinan; and it is said: it is what overlooks outside the building.
وطنف حائطه: جعل له برزينا وهو الإفريز.
And he made his wall tanf: he made for it a projection, which is the cornice.
ابن الأعرابي: ويقال للجناح يشرع فوق باب الدار طنف أيضا، شبه بطنف الجبل؛
Ibn al-A'rabi said: And the wing-like projection that extends over the door of the house is also called tanf, likened to the tanf of the mountain;
قال أبو ذؤيب يصف خلية عسل في طنف الجبل: فما ضرب بيضاء يأوي مليكها ... إلى طنف أعيا براق ونازل
Abu Dhu'ayb said, describing a beehive on a mountain overhang: So it is not a white she-camel whose king seeks refuge... on an overhang that exhausts the climber and the descender.
الطنف: حيد يندر من الجبل قد أعيا بمن يرقى ومن ينزل.
Al-tanf: a cliff that juts out from the mountain, which has exhausted those who climb and those who descend.
