Abu Amr said: 'As-sakhf', with fatha, means meagerness of living; and with damma, it means weakness of intellect. It is also said to be the lightheadedness that befalls a person when they are hungry due to weakness, and it is a lightness in the mind and elsewhere.

وأرض مسخفة: قليلة الكلإ، أخذ من الثوب السخيف.

And barren land: little vegetation, derived from the concept of a flimsy garment.

وأسخف الرجل: رق ماله وقل؛ قال رؤبة: وإن تشكيت من الإسخاف.

And the man became poor: his wealth became thin and little; Ru'ba said: And if you complain of poverty.

ونصل سخيف: طويل عريض؛ عن أبي حنيفة.
