إذا أسلم العبد فحسن إسلامه يكفر الله عنه كل سيئة أزلفها
When a servant embraces Islam and his Islam is good, Allah forgives him every bad deed he has sent forth.
وأقم الصلاة طرفي النهار وزلفا من الليل
And perform the prayer at the two ends of the day and at the first part of the night.
فطفقن يزدلفن إليه بأيتهن يبدأ
So they began to draw near to him, to see which of them he would start with.
فإذا زالت الشمس فازدلف إلى الله بركعتين واخطب فيهما
And when the sun declines, then draw near to Allah with two rak'ahs and deliver a sermon in them.
فمنكم المزدلف الحر صاحب العمامة الفردة
Among you is al-Muzdalif al-Hurr, the one with the single turban.
ما لك من عيشك إلا لذة تزدلف بك إلى حمامك
You have nothing from your life but a pleasure that brings you closer to your bath [death].
والزلفة: الصحفة الممتلئة، بالتحريك
And al-zulfah: the full dish, with harakah.
حتى تحيرت الدبار كأنها ... زلف، وألقي قتبها المحزوم
Until the tracks became confused as if they were... reservoirs, and their girded saddles were thrown.
ثم يرسل الله مطرا فيغسل الأرض حتى يتركها كالزلفة
Then Allah will send rain, and it will wash the earth until it leaves it like a reservoir.
