كأن الرحل شد به خذوف، ... من الجونات، هادية عنون
As if the saddle were tied to a fast female donkey, ... from the dark-skinned ones, a leading one.
وقيل: الخذوف التي تدنو من الأرض سمنا، وقيل: الخذوف التي ترفع رجليها إلى شق بطنها.
And it was said: Al-khadhūf is that which comes close to the ground due to fatness, and it was said: Al-khadhūf is that which lifts its legs to its belly.
قال الأصمعي: أتان خذوف، وهي التي تدنو من الأرض من السمن؛ قال الراعي يصف عيرا وأتنه:
Al-Asmaʻī said: A fast female donkey, and it is that which comes close to the ground due to fatness; Al-Rāʻī said, describing a wild ass and its female donkey:
نفى بالعراك حواليها، ... فخفت له خذف ضمر
It repelled with fighting around them, ... so it made for it a fast, lean gait.
والخذوف من الإبل: التي لا يثبت صرارها.
And al-khadhūf of camels: she whose milk does not remain firm.
الخذفان ضرب من سير الإبل.
Al-khadhfān is a type of camel gait.
