رميك بحصاة أو نواة تأخذها بين سبابتيك أو تجعل مخذفة من خشب ترمي بها بين الإبهام والسبابة.

خذف بالشيء يخذف خذفا: رمى، وخص بعضهم به الحصى.

وأما الخذف، بالخاء، فإنه الرمي بالحصى الصغار بأطراف الأصابع.

روي عن النبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم، أنه نهى عن الخذف بالحصى وقال: إنه يفقأ العين ولا ينكي العدو ولا يحرز صيدا.
It was narrated from the Prophet, peace be upon him, that he forbade throwing pebbles, saying: It blinds the eye, does not wound the enemy, and does not secure prey.
وفي حديث رمي الجمار: عليكم بمثل حصى الخذف وهي صغار.
And in the hadith about throwing the pebbles at the Jamarat: Use pebbles like those for al-khadhf, meaning small ones.
الجوري: الخذف بالحصى الرمي به بالأصابع؛ ومنه قول امرئ القيس:
Al-Jūrī: Al-khadhf with pebbles is throwing them with the fingers; and from this is the saying of Imruʼ al-Qays:
كأن الحصى من خلفها وأمامها، ... إذا نجلته رجلها، خذف أعسرا
As if the pebbles were behind her and in front of her, ... when her leg kicked, throwing them to the left.
وهو رميك حصاة أو نواة تأخذها بين سبابتيك فترمي بها، أو تتخذ مخذفة من خشب فترمي بها الحصاة بين إبهامك والسبابة.

والمخذفة: المقلاع وشيء يرمى به.
And al-mikhdhafah: a sling and something with which one throws.
ابن سيده: والمخذفة التي يوضع فيها الحجر ويرمى بها الطير وغيرها مثل المقلاع وغيره.
Ibn Sīdah: And al-mikhdhafah is that in which a stone is placed and with which birds and others are thrown at, like a sling and other things.
وفي الحديث: لم يترك عيسى بن مريم، عليهما وعلى نبينا الصلاة والسلام، إلا مدرعة صوف ومخذفة ؛ أراد بالمخذفة المقلاع.
And in the hadith: Jesus son of Mary, peace be upon them and upon our Prophet, left nothing but a wool tunic and a sling; by al-mikhdhafah he meant a sling.
خذفه النطفة: إلقاؤها في وسط الرحم.
He threw the seed into her: casting it into the middle of the womb.
خذف بها يخذف خذفا: ضرط.
He passed wind, passing wind, passing wind: he farted.
والخذف: القطع كالخدب؛ عن كراع.
And al-khadhf: cutting, like al-khadab; according to Kra'ah.
والخذف والخذفان: سرعة سير الإبل.
And al-khadhf and al-khadhfān: the speed of camels' travel.
والخذوف من الدواب: السريعة والسمينة؛ قال عدي:
And al-khadhūf of animals: the fast and the plump; ʻAdī said:
لا تنسيا ذكري على لذة الكأس، ... وطوف بالخذوف النحوص
Do not forget my mention over the pleasure of the cup, ... and circle with the fast, pregnant female camels.
والخذوف الأتان تخذف من سرعتها الحصى أي ترميه؛ قال النابغة:
And al-khadhūf is the female donkey that throws pebbles due to its speed, meaning it throws them; Al-Nābighah said:
كأن الرحل شد به خذوف، ... من الجونات، هادية عنون
As if the saddle were tied to a fast female donkey, ... from the dark-skinned ones, a leading one.
وقيل: الخذوف التي تدنو من الأرض سمنا، وقيل: الخذوف التي ترفع رجليها إلى شق بطنها.
And it was said: Al-khadhūf is that which comes close to the ground due to fatness, and it was said: Al-khadhūf is that which lifts its legs to its belly.
قال الأصمعي: أتان خذوف، وهي التي تدنو من الأرض من السمن؛ قال الراعي يصف عيرا وأتنه:
Al-Asmaʻī said: A fast female donkey, and it is that which comes close to the ground due to fatness; Al-Rāʻī said, describing a wild ass and its female donkey:
نفى بالعراك حواليها، ... فخفت له خذف ضمر
It repelled with fighting around them, ... so it made for it a fast, lean gait.
والخذوف من الإبل: التي لا يثبت صرارها.
And al-khadhūf of camels: she whose milk does not remain firm.
الخذفان ضرب من سير الإبل.
Al-khadhfān is a type of camel gait.
