والتَّرْفَةُ النِّعْمَةُ
And the tarfah is the blessing.
وَصَبِيٌّ مُتَرَّفٌ إِذَا كَانَ مُنَعَّمَ الْبَدَنِ مُدَلَّلًا
And a pampered child is one who is comfortable in body and spoiled.
وَالْمُتْرَفُ: الَّذِي قَدْ أَبْطَرَتْهُ النِّعْمَةُ وَسَعَةُ الْعَيْشِ.
And the mutraf: one whom fortune and a life of ease have made insolent.
وَأَتْرَفَتْهُ النِّعْمَةُ أَيْ أَطْغَتْهُ.
And fortune made him luxurious, meaning it made him insolent.
أَوْهٌ لِفِرَاخِ مُحَمَّدٍ مِنْ خَلِيفَةٍ يَسْتَخْلِفُ عُتْرِيفًا مُتْرَفًا
Alas for the young ones of Muhammad, to be succeeded by a pampered, luxurious ruler.
الْمُتْرَفُ: الْمُتَنَعِّمُ الْمُتَوَسِّعُ فِي مَلَاذِّ الدُّنْيَا وَشَهَوَاتِهَا.
The mutraf: one who enjoys luxury and indulges in the pleasures and desires of this world.
أَنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ، فُرَّ بِهِ مِنْ جَبَّارٍ مُتْرَفٍ.
That Ibrahim, peace be upon him, was fled from a luxurious tyrant.
وَرَجُلٌ مُتَرَّفٌ وَمُتْرَفٌ: مُوَسَّعٌ عَلَيْهِ.
And a man who is pampered and luxurious: one who has ample provision.
إِلَّا قَالَ مُتْرَفُوهَا
Except that its luxurious ones said
أَيْ أُولُو التَّرْفَةِ وَأَرَادَ رُؤَسَاءَهَا وَقَادَةَ الشَّرِّ مِنْهَا.
Meaning, those of luxury, and it intended its chiefs and leaders of evil.
وَالتَّرْفَةُ، بِالضَّمِّ: الطَّعَامُ الطَّيِّبُ
And the tarfah, with dammah: good food.
وَأَتْرَفَ الرَّجُلُ: أَعْطَاهُ شَهْوَتَهُ
And the man was made luxurious: meaning he was given his desire.
وَتَرِفَ النَّبَاتُ: تُرُوِّيَ.
And the plants were luxurious: meaning they were well-watered.
وَصَاحِبُهَا أَتْرَفُ.
And its owner is atraf (having a prominent upper lip).
وَالتَّرْفَةُ: مَسْقَاةٌ يُشْرَبُ بِهَا.
And the tarfah: a place from which one drinks.
