هاع يمضغني، ويصبح سادرا، ... سلكا بلحمي، ذئبه لا يشبع ومضغ الطعام يمضغه مضغا.
He said: 'He chews me, and becomes absent-minded, ... piercing my flesh, his wolf is never satisfied, and chewing food, he chews it thoroughly.'
والمضاغ، بالفتح: ما يمضغ، وفي التهذيب: كل طعام يمضغ.
And 'madhagh', with fatha: what is chewed, and in Al-Tahdhib: every food that is chewed.
وما ذقت مضاغا ولا لواكا أي ما ذقت ما يمضغ.
And I did not taste anything chewed nor anything to chew, meaning I did not taste what is chewed.
وفي حديث أبي هريرة: أكل حشفة من تمرات قال: فكانت أعجبهن إلي لأنها شدت في مضاغي ؛
And in the narration of Abu Hurayrah: He ate a shriveled date from a bunch of dates, and said: 'It was the most pleasing to me because it was firm in my throat/chewing passage.'
يقال: لقمة لينة المضاغ وشديدة المضاغ، أراد أنها كان فيها قوة عند مضغها.
It is said: a soft mouthful and a hard mouthful, meaning it had strength when being chewed.
وكلأ مضغ: قد بلغ أن تمضغه الراعية؛
And fodder that is 'madhgh': has reached the stage where the shepherdess can chew it.
ومننه قول أبي فقعس في صفة الكلإ: خضع مضع ضاف رتع؛ أراد مضغ فحول الغين عينا لما قبله من خضع ولما بعده من رتع.
And from it is the saying of Abu Fuq'as in description of the fodder: 'It was soft, chewable, abundant, and lush'; he meant the chewing of the strong ones of the 'ayn, referring to what preceded it from 'khadha'' and what followed it from 'rata''.
والمضاغة، بالضم: ما مضغ.
And 'madhaagha', with damma: what is chewed.
والمضاغة: ما يبقى في الفم من آخر ما مضغته.
And 'madhaagha': what remains in the mouth from the last thing you chewed.
والمواضغ: الأضراس لمضغها، صفة غالبة.
And 'mawadhigh': the molars for their chewing, a dominant characteristic.
والماضغان والماضغتان والمضيغتان: الحنكان لمضغهما المأكول، وقيل: هما روذا الحنكين «2» لذلك، وقيل: هما عرقان في اللحيين، وقيل: هما أصلا اللحيين عند منبت الأضراس بحياله، وقيل: هما ما شخص عند المضغ.
And 'madhaghan' and 'madhaghataan' and 'mudhayghataan': the jaws for chewing food, and it was said: they are the two sides of the jaws for that purpose, and it was said: they are two veins in the jawbones, and it was said: they are the roots of the jawbones at the place where the molars grow, and it was said: they are what protrude during chewing.
والمضيغة: كل عصبة ذات لحم، فإما أن تكون مما يمضغ، وإما أن تشبه بذلك إن كان مما لا يؤكل.
And 'mudhaygha': every sinew with flesh, whether it is something that is chewed, or resembles that if it is something not eaten.
والمضيغة: لحم باطن العضد، لذلك أيضا.
And 'mudhaygha': the flesh of the inner part of the upper arm, for that reason too.
وقال ابن شميل: كل لحم على عظم مضيغة، والجمع مضيغ ومضائغ.
And Ibn Shumayl said: Every piece of flesh on a bone is a 'mudhaygha', and the plural is 'mudhaygh' and 'madha'igh'.
وقال الليث: كل لحمة يفصل بينها وبين غيرها عرق فهي مضيغة، قال: واللهزمة مضيغة والعضلة مضيغة.
And Al-Layth said: Every piece of flesh separated from another by a vein is a 'mudhaygha', he said: And the diaphragm is a 'mudhaygha' and the muscle is a 'mudhaygha'.
والمضائغ من وظيفي الفرس: رؤوس الشظايتين «3» لأن آكلها من الوحش يمضغها، وقد تكون على التشبيه كما تقدم لمكان المضغ أيضا.
And 'madha'igh' from the two cannon bones of the horse: the heads of the two small bones because the eater of it from wild animals chews them, and it may be by analogy as previously mentioned due to the place of chewing.
والمضغة: ما بل وشد على طرف سية القوس من العقب لأنه يمضغ، وقيل: هي العقبة التي على طرف السية.
And 'mudhgha': what is wet and tightened on the end of the bowstring from the heel because it is chewed, and it was said: it is the heel that is on the end of the bowstring.
الأصمعي: المضائغ العقبات اللواتي على طرف السيتين.
Al-Asma'i: 'Al-madha'igh' are the heels that are on the ends of the two bowstrings.
والمضغة: القطعة من اللحم لمكان المضغ أيضا.
And 'mudhgha': a piece of flesh, also due to the place of chewing.
التهذيب: المضغة قطعة لحم، وقيل: تكون المضغة غير اللحم.
Al-Tahdhib: 'Al-mudhgha' is a piece of flesh, and it was said: 'Al-mudhgha' can be something other than flesh.
يقال: أطيب مضغة أكلها الناس صيحانية مصلية.
It is said: The most delicious 'mudhgha' that people ate was a roasted 'sayhaniyya'.
وقال خالد بن جنبة: المضغة من اللحم قدر ما يلقي الإنسان في فيه، ومنه قيل: في الإنسان مضغتان إذا صلحتا صلح البدن: القلب واللسان، والجمع مضغ، وقلب الإنسان مضغة من جسده.
And Khalid bin Junbah said: 'Al-mudhgha' of flesh is the amount a person puts in his mouth, and from this it is said: In a person there are two 'mudhghatan' (lumps); if they are sound, the body is sound: the heart and the tongue, and the plural is 'madhgh', and the human heart is a 'mudhgha' of his body.
التهذيب: إذا صارت العلقة التي خلق منها الإنسان لحمة فهي مضغة.
Al-Tahdhib: When the 'alaqa' (clot) from which man was created becomes flesh, it is a 'mudhgha'.
وفي الحديث: إن خلق أحدكم يجمع في بطن أمه أربعين يوما نطفة ثم أربعين يوما علقة ثم أربعين يوما مضغة ثم يبعث الله إليه الملك.
And in the Hadith: Verily, the creation of one of you is gathered in his mother's womb for forty days as a drop, then for forty days as a clot, then for forty days as a lump of flesh, then Allah sends an angel to him.
وفي الحديث: إن في ابن آدم مضغة إذا صلحت صلح الجسد كله ، يعني القلب لأنه قطعة لحم من الجسد.
And in the Hadith: Verily, in the son of Adam there is a lump of flesh; if it is sound, the whole body is sound, meaning the heart because it is a piece of flesh from the body.
والمضغ من الجراح: صغارها، وقول عمر، رضي الله عنه: إنا لا نتعاقل المضغ بيننا ، أراد الجراحات، والمضغ جمع مضغة، وهي القطعة من اللحم قدر ما يمضغ وسماها مضغا على التشبيه بمضغة الإنسان في خلقه، يذهب بذلك إلى تصغيرها وتقليلها.
And 'al-madhgh' from wounds: their small ones, and the saying of Umar, may Allah be pleased with him: 'We do not compensate for the small wounds among us', meaning the wounds, and 'al-madhgh' is the plural of 'mudhgha', which is the piece of flesh the size of what is chewed, and he called it 'madhgh' by analogy with the 'mudhgha' of a human in his creation, intending to diminish and reduce it.
والمضغ: ما ليس له أرش مقدر معلوم من الجراح والشجاج، شبهت بمضغة الخلق قبل نفث الروح، وبالمضغة الواحدة شبهت اللقمة تمضغ، وقيل: شبهها بالمضغة من اللحم لقلتها في جنب ما عظم من الجنايات.
And 'al-madhgh': what does not have a known fixed compensation for wounds and gashes, likened to the 'mudhgha' of creation before the spirit is breathed into it, and by a single 'mudhgha' is likened a mouthful that is chewed, and it was said: it is likened to a 'mudhgha' of flesh due to its smallness compared to the gravity of the offenses.
وأمضغ التمر: حان أن يمضغ.
And dates became 'amdhagha': it was time for them to be chewed.
وتمر ذو مضغة: صلب متين يمضغ كثيرا.
And dates with 'madhgha': firm and solid, requiring much chewing.
وهجاه هجاء ذا ممضغة: يصفه بالجودة والصلابة كالتمر ذي الممضغة.
And he satirized him with a satire that had 'mumdhagha': describing him with quality and firmness like dates with 'mumdhagha'.
وإنه لذو مضغة إذا كان من سوسه اللحم.
And indeed, it has 'mudhgha' if the flesh is from its worm-eaten part.
ومضغ الأمور: صغارها، وكلاهما من المضغ.
And 'madhgh al-umoor': their small matters, and both are from chewing.
وماضغه القتال والخصومة: طاوله إياهما.
And he prolonged the fight and the dispute with him: he drew them out.
