الفشغ والانفشاغ: اتساع الشيء وانتشاره.
Al-fashgh and al-infishagh: the widening and spreading of a thing.
وتفشغ فيه الشيب وتفشغه؛ الأخيرة عن ابن الأعرابي: كثر فيه وانتشر.
And gray hair spread in it and became abundant; the latter is from Ibn al-A'rabi: it became numerous and spread in it.
وفشغه أي علاه حتى غطاه.
And he covered it, meaning it rose over it until it covered it.
والفاشغة: الغرة المنتشرة المغطية للعين.
And al-fashighah: the spreading blaze covering the eye.
وتفشغت الغرة: كثرت وانتشرت؛ وفشغت الناصية والقصة حتى تغطي عين الفرس؛
And the blaze spread: it became numerous and spread; and the forelock and the blaze spread until they covered the horse's eye;
له قصة فشغت حاجبيه،
It has a forelock that spread over its eyebrows,
والناصية الفشغاء: المنتشرة.
And the spreading forelock: the widespread one.
وفشغه بالسوط فشغا أي علاه به، وكذلك أفشغه به إذا ضربه.
And he struck him with the whip, meaning he rose over him with it, and likewise he struck him with it if he hit him.
وتفشغ الولد: كثر.
And the offspring became numerous: it increased.
هل تفشغ فيكم الولد فإن ذلك من علامات الخير؟
Has offspring become numerous among you, for that is a sign of good fortune?
إن هذا الأمر قد تفشغ أي فشا وانتشر.
Indeed, this matter has spread, meaning it became widespread and diffused.
ما هذه الفتيا التي تفشغت في الناس؟
What is this legal opinion that has spread among the people?
ويقال: تفشغ في بني فلان الخير إذا كثر وفشا.
And it is said: Goodness spread among the people of so-and-so if it became numerous and widespread.
وتفشغ فيه الدم أي غلبه وتمشى في بدنه؛
And blood spread in him, meaning it overcame him and moved through his body;
وقد سمنت حتى كأن مخاضها ... تفشغها ظلع، وليست بظلع
And she became fat until it was as if her offspring ... spread over her, causing lameness, yet she was not lame.
تفشغ الرجل البيوت دخل فيها.
The man entered the houses, meaning he entered into them.
وتفشغ فلان في بيوت الحي إذا غاب فيها فلم تره،
And so-and-so disappeared among the houses of the tribe if he was hidden in them and you did not see him,
وتفشغ المرأة: دخل بين رجليها ووقع عليها وافترعها.
And the woman became available: he entered between her legs, lay upon her, and deflowered her.
ورجل أفشغ الثنية: ناتئها.
And a man with a protruding incisor: its protrusion.
أنه كان آدم ذا ضفيرتين أفشغ الثنيتين أي ناتئ الثنيتين خارجتين عن نضد الأسنان.
That Adam had two braids, with protruding incisors, meaning the two incisors protruding beyond the row of teeth.
فشغه النوم تفشيغا إذا علاه وغلبه وكسله؛
Sleep overcame him with a strong effect, meaning it rose over him, overpowered him, and made him lazy;
فإذا غزال عاقد، ... كالظبي فشغه المنام
And behold, a gazelle, standing firm, ... like a deer, sleep overcame it.
والتفشغ والفشاغ: الكسل.
And al-tafashgh and al-fishagh: laziness.
وقد فشغه المنام أي كسله.
And sleep overcame him, meaning it made him lazy.
والفشاغ: نبات يتفشغ وينتشر على الشجر ويلتوي عليه.
And al-fishagh: a plant that spreads and extends over trees and twines around them.
والفشغة: قصبة «1» في جوف قصبة.
And al-fashghah: a reed within a reed.
والفشغة: ما تطاير من جوف الصوصلاة، وهو نبت يقال له صاصلى، وقيل: هو حشيش يأكل جوفه صبيان العراق.
And al-fashghah: what flies off from the inside of 'sawsala', which is a plant called 'sawsala', and it is said: it is a herb whose inside is eaten by the children of Iraq.
وفشغه بالسوط يفشغه فشغا وأفشغه به وأفشغه إياه: ضربه به.
And he struck him with the whip, he struck him a striking, and he struck him with it, and he struck it to him: he hit him with it.
وفاشغ الناقة إذا أراد أن يذبح ولدها فجعل عليه ثوبا يغطي به رأسه وظهره كله ما خلا سنامه، فيرضعها يوما أو يومين ثم يوثق وتنحى عنه أمه حيث تراه، ثم يؤخذ عنه الثوب فيجعل على حوار آخر فترى أنه ابنها وينطلق بالآخر فيذبح.
And he deceived the she-camel if he wanted to slaughter her young, so he put a garment over it covering its head and its entire back except its hump, so it suckles it for a day or two, then it is tied up and its mother is moved away from it where she can see it, then the garment is taken from it and placed on another calf, so she sees it as her offspring and the other is taken away to be slaughtered.
المفاشغة أن يجر ولد الناقة من تحتها فينحر وتعطف على ولد آخر يجر إليها فيلقى تحتها فترأمه.
Al-mufashaghah is to pull the she-camel's young from beneath her and slaughter it, and she is drawn to another young that is pulled to her and placed beneath her, so she mothers it.
جر المفاشغ هم بالإرآم
The pulling of the deceived ones, their desire for mothering.
أن وفد البصرة أتوه وقد تفشغوا فقال: ما هذه الهيئة؟
That the delegation from Basra came to him, and they had become disheveled, so he said: What is this state?
تفشغوا أي لبسوا أخشن ثيابهم ولم يتهيؤوا للقائه؛
They became disheveled, meaning they wore their coarsest clothes and did not prepare themselves for meeting him;
وأنا لا آمن أن يكون مصحفا من تقشفوا، والتقشف: أن لا يتعهد الرجل نفسه.
And I do not feel safe that it might be a misreading of 'taqashshafu', and taqashshuf: is for a man not to attend to himself.
والفشاغ في المهر: نحو القراف.
And al-fishagh in a colt: is like al-qiraf (a type of skin disease).
