تبيغ به الدم: هاج به، وذلك حين تظهر حمرته في البدن، وهو في الشفة خاصة البيغ.
The blood surged within him, meaning it became agitated, which is when its redness appears on the body, and it is specifically on the lip that 'al-baygh' occurs.
أبو زيد: تبيغ به النوم إذا غلبه، وتبيغ به الدم غلبه، وتبيغ به المرض غلبه.
Abu Zayd said: 'Sleep overcame him' if it dominated him, and 'blood overcame him', and 'illness overcame him'.
وقال شمر: تبيغ به الدم أن يغلبه حتى يقهره، وقال بعض العرب: تبيغ به الدم أي تردد فيه الدم.
Shamir said: 'The blood overcoming him' means it dominates him until it conquers him, and some of the Arabs said: 'The blood surged within him' meaning the blood circulated within him.
وتبيغ الماء إذا تردد فتحير في مجراه مرة كذا ومرة كذا، وكذلك تبوح به الدم «1».
And water surges when it circulates and becomes confused in its course, going this way and that, and similarly blood surges within.
والبيغ توقد الدم حتى يظهر في العروق.
And 'al-baygh' is the heating of blood until it appears in the veins.
فاعلم وليس الرأي بالتبيغ
So know, and it is not sound judgment to become agitated.
كتبيغ الداء إذا أخذ في جسده كله واشتد؛
Like the agitation of a disease when it affects the whole body and intensifies;
وتعلم نزيغات الهوى أن ودها ... تبيغ مني كل عظم ومفصل
And you know the instigations of desire that their affection... surges through every bone and joint of mine.
وتبيغ به الدم غلبه وقهره كأنه مقلوب عن البغي أي تبغى مثل جذب وجبذ وما أطيبه وأيطبه؛ عن اللحياني.
And 'the blood surged within him' means it overcame and conquered him, as if it were an inversion of 'al-baghy' (to seek), meaning it seeks, like 'jadhaba' and 'jabadhba', and 'ma atyabahu' and 'ma aytabahu'; from Al-Lihyani.
وإنك عالم ولا تبغ أي لا تبيغ بك العين فتصيبك كما يتبيغ الدم بصاحبه فيقتله.
And you are knowledgeable, and do not seek (harm), meaning the evil eye does not surge within you and strike you as blood surges within its owner and kills him.
وحكى بعض الأعراب: من هذا المبوغ عليه ومن هذا المبيغ عليه؟ معناه لا يحسد.
And some of the Arabs narrated: 'Who is this one being envied?' and 'Who is this one being envied?' meaning, one who is not envied.
عليكم بالحجامة لا يتبيغ بأحدكم الدم فيقتله أي لا يتهيج،
Adhere to cupping, so that the blood does not surge within one of you and kill him, meaning it does not become agitated,
وقيل: أصله من البغي، يريد تبغى فقدم الياء وأخر الغين.
And it was said: its origin is from 'al-baghy' (to seek), meaning 'tabghay' (you seek), so the yaa was brought forward and the ghayn was delayed.
وقال ابن الأعرابي: تبيغ وتبوغ، بالواو والياء، وأصله من البوغاء وهو التراب إذا ثار، فمعناه لا يثر بأحدكم الدم.
And Ibn Al-A'rabi said: 'tabayyu' and 'tabawwugh', with waw and yaa, and its origin is from 'al-bughaa', which is dust when it is stirred up, so its meaning is that blood does not surge within one of you.
وفي الحديث: إذا تبيغ بأحدكم الدم فليحتجم.
And in the hadith: If the blood surges within one of you, let him be cupped.
وفي حديث ابن عمر: ابغني خادما لا يكون قحما فانيا ولا صغيرا ضرعا فقد تبيغ بي الدم ، والله أعلم.
And in the hadith of Ibn Umar: Seek for me a servant who is not old and worn out, nor a small, weakling, for the blood has surged within me, and God knows best.
