He vomited, he vomits, and he vomited; vomiting and heaving: to vomit, and it is said: to vomit without effort, and if one makes an effort, it is said 'taha'a'.

وما خرج من حلقه هواعة

And what came out of his throat is hawa'ah (vomit).

ويقال: تهوع نفسه إذا قاء بنفسه كأنه يخرجها

And it is said: he forced his soul out when he vomited by himself, as if he were expelling it.

قال رؤبة يصف ثورا طعن كلابا: ينهى به سوارهن الأشجعا، ... حتى إذا ناهزها تهوعا

Ru'bah said, describing a bull that gored dogs: 'His bracelets prevented the bravest of them... until he was close to vomiting.'

قال بعضهم: تهوع أي قاء الدم

And it is said: he vomited his soul and expelled it.

وحكى اللحياني: هاع هيعوعة، في بنات الواو، تهوع، ولا يتوجه، اللهم إلا أن يكون محذوفا

Al-Lihyani narrated: ha'a heya'ah, among the daughters of waw, taha'a, and it is not directed, unless something is omitted.

والتهوع: التقيؤ

And al-taha'u: the vomiting.

يقال: لأهوعنه ما أكل أي لأقيئنه ولأستخرجنه من حلقه

It is said: I will make him vomit what he ate, meaning I will make him vomit and extract it from his throat.

وفي الحديث كان إذا تسوك قال أع أع كأنه يتهوع أي يتقيأ

And in the hadith, when he used the siwak, he would say 'a' 'a' as if he were retching, meaning vomiting.

والهواع: القيء

And al-huwa'u: the vomit.

ومننه حديث علقمة: الصائم إذا ذرعه القيء فليتم صومه وإذا تهوع فعليه القضاء أي إذا استقاء

And from it is the hadith of Alqamah: The fasting person, if vomiting overcomes him, let him complete his fast, and if he vomits intentionally, he must make it up, meaning if he induces vomiting.

وهاع القوم بعضهم إلى بعض أي هموا بالوثوب

And the people intended to leap upon each other, meaning they were eager to attack.
