So it is better to attribute the two terms to two meanings than to one meaning.

وقيل: النقع هاهنا شق الجيوب

And it was said: 'al-naqʿ' here means tearing the garments.

وجدت بيتا للمرار فيه: نقعن جيوبهن علي حيا، ... وأعددن المراثي والعويلا

I found a verse by Al-Mirar in it: 'They tore their garments open in mourning, ... and prepared elegies and wailing.'

والنقاع: المتكثر بما ليس عنده من مدح نفسه بالشجاعة والسخاء وما أشبهه

And 'al-nuqāʿ': is boasting about what one does not possess, such as praising oneself for courage and generosity and the like.

And 'naqaʿa' evil for him: means to perpetuate it.

أنقعت له شرا، وهو استعارة

I perpetuated evil for him, and this is a metaphor.

ويقال: نقعه بالشتم إذا شتمه شتما قبيحا

And it is said: 'naqaʿahu' with cursing means if he cursed him with an ugly curse.

والنقائع: خبارى في بلاد تميم، والخبارى: جمع خبراء، وهي قاع مستدير يجتمع فيه الماء

And 'al-naqāʾiʿ': are basins in the lands of Tamim, and 'al-khabārā': is the plural of 'khabirā', which is a round depression where water collects.

وانتقع لونه: تغير من هم أو فزع

And his color became pale: it changed due to worry or fright.

فرجع وقد انتقع لونه

So he returned, and his color had become pale.

يقال ذلك إذا ذهب دمه وتغيرت جلدة وجهه إما من خوف وإما من مرض

This is said when his blood drains and the skin of his face changes, either from fear or from illness.

يقال صبغ فلان ثوبه بنقوع، وهو صبغ يجعل فيه من أفواه الطيب

حمى عمر غرز النقيع؛ قال ابن الأثير: هو موضع حماه لنعم الفيء وخيل المجاهدين فلا يرعاه غيرها، وهو موضع قريب من المدينة كان يستنقع فيه الماء أي يجتمع

Omar protected the grazing area of 'al-Naqīʿ'; Ibn al-Athir said: It is a place he protected for the spoils of war and the horses of the mujahideen, so no one else grazes there. It is a place near Medina where water would collect, meaning pool.

ومننه الحديث أول جمعة جمعت في الإسلام بالمدينة في نقيع الخضمات ؛ قال: هو موضع بنواحي المدينة

And from it is the hadith: 'The first Friday prayer gathered in Islam in Medina was in Naqīʿ al-Khuḍamāt'; he said: It is a place in the vicinity of Medina.
