And if you wished to strike a spark in the darkness... with a flint from a 'nab'' tree, you would ignite a fire.

فما كان منها في قلة الجبل فهو النبع، وما كان في سفحه فهو الشريان، وما كان في الحضيض فهو الشوحط

So, what is on the peak of the mountain is the 'nab'', and what is on its slope is the 'shiryān', and what is at the base is the 'shawḥaṭ'.

وكيف تخاف القوم، أمك هابل، ... وعندك قوس فارج وجفير من النبع لا شريانة مستحيلة، ... ولا شوحط عند اللقاء غرور

And how do you fear the people, your mother is a mourner, ... when you have a bow of 'faraj' and 'jafīr' from the 'nab'' tree, not an impossible 'shiryān', ... nor a 'shawḥaṭ' that deceives in battle.

والنباعة: الرماعة من رأس الصبي قبل أن تشتد، فإذا اشتدت فهي اليافوخ

And 'an-nabā'ah': is the soft spot on a child's head before it hardens; when it hardens, it is the fontanelle.

ومر فأروى ينبعا فجنوبه، ... وقد جيد منه جيدة فعباثر

And he passed by and quenched Yanbu' and its southern parts, ... and a good part of it was made excellent and abundant.

وكأنها بالجزع جزع نبايع، ... وأولات ذي العرجاء، نهب مجمع
