Al-Laythiyānī said: Al-Kisā'ī claimed that Banu Asad pronounce Manā'ahā and Durāk'ahā and whatever is of this kind with a 'fatḥah', while the 'kasrah' is more common.

وقوس منعة: ممتنعة متأبية شاقة؛

And a resistant bow: unyielding, stubborn, difficult;

ارم سلاما وأبا الغراف، ... وعاصما عن منعة قذاف

Shoot greetings and Abu Al-Ghurāf, ... and 'Āsim from a resistant, swift bow

والمتمنعتان: البكرة والعناق يتمنعان على السنة لفتائهما وإنهما يشبعان قبل الجلة، وهما المقاتلتان الزمان على أنفسهما.

And the two unyielding ones: the young she-goat and the kid, they are unyielding in their youth because of their tenderness, and they become full before the older ones, and they are the two fighters who resist time for themselves.

Al-Laythiyānī narrated: 'There is no prevention from that', he said: 'And the interpretation is truly that you do that.'

قال ابن جني: المناعة تحتمل أمرين: أحدهما أن تكون فعالة من منع، والآخر أن تكون مفعلة من قولهم جائع نائع، وأصلها منوعة فجرت مجرى مقامة وأصلها مقومة.

Ibn Jinni said: Al-Manā'ah can mean two things: one is that it is 'fa'ālah' from 'mana'a', and the other is that it is 'maf'alah' from their saying 'jā'i'un nā'i'un', and its origin is 'munawwa'ah' and it followed the pattern of 'maqāmah' whose origin is 'muqawwamah'.
