And the Arabs say: 'Iṣqaʿū baytakum' (secure your tent) because the wind has become stormy, and they secure it with the rope as I have described.
والصقاع: حديدة تكون في موضع الحكمة من اللجام؛
And 'aṣ-ṣiqāʿ' is an iron piece that is in the place of the bit in a bridle.
والأصقع من الطير والخيل وغيرهما: ما كان على رأسه بياض؛
And 'al-aṣqaʿ' among birds, horses, and others is that which has white on its head.
وعقاب أصقع إذا كان في رأسه بياض؛

And 'al-aṣqaʿ' is a bird like a sparrow with white in its plumage and on its head, or it is said to be like a sparrow with green in its plumage and a white head, found near water.
وقيل: الأصقع طائر وهو الصفارية؛
And it is said: 'al-aṣqaʿ' is a bird, and it is the yellow bird (ṣifāriyyah).

And 'aṣ-ṣaʿqa' is a white spot in the middle of a black sheep's head, and its location on the head is 'aṣ-ṣūqʿa'.

قيل: هو من رفع الصوت، وقيل: يذهب في كل صقع من الكلام أي ناحية، وهو للفارسي.
It is said: it is from raising the voice, and it is said: he goes into every 'ṣaqʿ' of speech, meaning every direction, and this is for the Persian.
والصقع البلاغة في الكلام والوقوع على المعاني.
And 'aṣ-ṣaqʿ' is eloquence in speech and precision in meaning.
والصقع: رفع الصوت؛
And 'aṣ-ṣaqʿ' is raising the voice.
وفي حديث حذيفة بن أسيد: شر الناس في الفتنة الخطيب المصقع أي البليغ الماهر في خطبته الداعي إلى الفتن الذي يحرض الناس عليها، وهو مفعل من الصقع رفع الصوت ومتابعته، ومفعل من أبنية المبالغة.
And in the hadith of Hudhayfah ibn al-Asīd: The worst of people in sedition is the eloquent orator ('al-khaṭīb al-muṣaqqiʿ'), meaning the eloquent one skilled in his oration, who calls to sedition and incites people to it, and it is a form of 'mufaʿʿal' from 'aṣ-ṣaqʿ' (raising the voice and following it up), and 'mufaʿʿal' is from the patterns of exaggeration.
والعرب تقول: صه صاقع تقوله للرجل تسمعه يكذب أي اسكت يا كذاب فقد ضللت عن الحق.
And the Arabs say: 'Ṣah ṣāqiʿ' (Hush, liar), which they say to a man they hear lying, meaning 'Be quiet, liar, for you have strayed from the truth'.
والصاقع: الكذاب.
And 'aṣ-ṣāqiʿ' is the liar.
وصقع في كل النواحي يصقع: ذهب؛
And 'ṣaqaʿa' in all directions means to go.
وعلمت أني إن أخذت بحيلة، نهشت يداي إلى وجى لم يصقع
And I knew that if I resorted to trickery, my hands would reach for something that did not go away.
هو من هذا أي لم يذهب عن طريق الكلام.
It is from this, meaning it did not deviate from the path of speech.
ويقال: ما أدري أين صقع وبقع أي ما أدري أين ذهب، قلما يتكلم به إلا بحرف النفي.
And it is said: 'Mā adrī ayna ṣaqaʿa wa buqaʿa' (I don't know where he went), it is rarely said except with negation.
وما أدري أين صقع أي ما أدري أين توجه؛
And 'Mā adrī ayna ṣaqaʿa' means I don't know where he headed.
ولله صعلوك تشدد همه عليه، وفي الأرض العريضة مصقع
By God, a vagabond whose worries are intense upon him, and on the wide earth, he is heading.
أي متوجه.
Meaning heading.
وصقع فلان نحو صقع كذا وكذا أي قصده.
And so-and-so headed towards such-and-such a region, meaning he intended it.
وصقعت الركية تصقع صقعا: انهارت كصعقت.
And 'ṣaqaʿat' the well means it collapsed, like 'ṣaʿiqat'.
والصقع: القزع في الرأس، وقيل: هو ذهاب الشعر،
And 'aṣ-ṣaqʿ' is patchy hair on the head, or it is said to be hair loss.
والصقعي: الذي يولد في الصفرية.
And 'aṣ-ṣaqʿī' is one born in the spring season.
والصقعي الحوار الذي ينتج في الصقيع وهو من خير النتاج؛
And 'aṣ-ṣaqʿī' is the young camel born in the frost, and it is from the best offspring.
خراخر تحسب الصقعي، حتى يظل يقره الراعي سجالا
Abundant milk, you would think it is 'aṣ-ṣaqʿī', until the shepherd continues to pour it in streams.
والصقعي أول النتاج، وذلك حين تصقع الشمس فيه رؤوس البهم صقعا،
And 'aṣ-ṣaqʿī' is the first offspring, and that is when the sun strikes the heads of the lambs with a 'ṣaqaʿan'.
والصقيع والصقع كالغم يأخذ بالنفس من شدة الحر؛
And 'aṣ-ṣaqīʿ' and 'aṣ-ṣaqʿ' are like oppression that takes the breath away from the intensity of the heat.
في حرور ينضج اللحم بها، يأخذ السائر فيها كالصقع
In a heatwave that cooks the flesh, the traveler in it is overcome as if by 'aṣ-ṣaqʿ'.
والصقعاء: الشمس.
And 'aṣ-ṣaqʿā'' is the sun.
يا أبت ما أشد الحر؛ قال: إذا كانت الصقعاء من فوقك والرمضاء من تحتك،
O father, how intense the heat is! He said: When 'aṣ-ṣaqʿā'' (the sun) is above you and the burning sand is beneath you.
