صدعت الغنم صدعتين، بكسر الصاد، أي فرقتين
He divided the sheep into two divisions (ṣadaʿa), with a kasra on the ṣād, meaning two groups.
أن المصدق يجعل الغنم صدعين ثم يأخذ منهما الصدقة
That the tax collector makes the sheep into two groups (ṣadaʿayn) and then takes the charity from them.

إذا أقبلن هاجرة، أثارت ... من الأظلال إجلا أو صديعا
When they approach at noon, they stir up... from the shadows, a shade or a ṣadīʿ (group of camels).
ورجل صدع، بالتسكين وقد يحرك: وهو الضرب الخفيف اللحم
And a man ṣadaʿ, with sukūn, and it may be moved: meaning lean in flesh.
والصدع والصدع: الفتي الشاب القوي من الأرعال والظباء والإبل والحمر
And the ṣadaʿ and the ṣadaʿ: the strong young male of ostriches, gazelles, camels, and donkeys.
الصدع الوعل بين الوعلين
The ṣadaʿ: the ibex between the two ibexes (i.e., intermediate).
يا رب أباز من العفر صدع
O Lord, a young gazelle, intermediate (ṣadaʿ), from the red ones,
صدع من حديد، فقال عمر: وا دفراه
A piece of iron (ṣadaʿ min ḥadīd), so Umar said: Oh, my back!
وإذا صدع من الرجال، فقلت: من هذا الصدع ؟
And if he is an intermediate man (ṣadaʿ min ar-rijāl), and you say: Who is this intermediate one (aṣ-ṣadaʿ)?
يعني هذا الربعة في خلقه رجل بين الرجلين، وهو كالصدع من الوعول وعل بين الوعلين
Meaning this intermediate one in his creation, a man between two men, and he is like the intermediate ibex (ṣadaʿ) – an ibex between two ibexes.
والصديع: القميص بين القميصين لا بالكبير ولا بالصغير
And the ṣadīʿ: the shirt between the two shirts, neither large nor small.
ورجل صدع: ماض في أمره
And a man ṣadaʿ: one who proceeds decisively in his affair.
صدع بالأمر يصدع صدعا: أصاب به موضعه وجاهر به
He proceeded with the matter (ṣadaʿa bil-amri) with a proceeding (ṣadʿan): he hit its mark and declared it openly.
فاصدع بما تؤمر ؛ قال بعض المفسرين: اجهر بالقرآن
So declare openly what you are commanded (faṣdaʿ bimā tuʾmar); some commentators said: Proclaim the Quran loudly.
أي فرق بين الحق والباطل من قوله عز وجل: يومئذ يصدعون ، أي يتفرقون
Meaning distinguish between truth and falsehood from His saying, Exalted is He: That Day, they will be separated (yaṣdaʿūn), meaning they will disperse.
أي شق جماعتهم بالتوحيد
Meaning split their gathering with monotheism (tawḥīd).
اصدع فلانا أي اقصده لأنه كريم
Say to someone: iṣdaʿ fulānan, meaning approach him because he is noble.
دليل مصدع: ماض لوجهه
A guide (dalīl) proceeding directly (muṣaddiʿ): one who goes straight ahead.
خطيب مصدع: بليغ جريء على الكلام
An orator (khaṭīb) proceeding directly (muṣaddiʿ): eloquent and bold in speech.
هم إلب عليه وصدع واحد
They are united against him, one bloc (ṣadaʿ wāḥid).
والناس علينا صدع واحد أي مجتمعون بالعداوة
And the people are against us as one bloc (ṣadaʿ wāḥid), meaning united in enmity.
صدعت إلى الشيء أصدع صدوعا: ملت إليه
I inclined towards the thing (ṣadaʿtu ilā ash-shayʾi) with an inclination (ṣudūʿan): I leaned towards it.
وما صدعك عن هذا الأمر صدعا أي صرفك
And what turned you away (ma ṣadaʿaka) from this matter with a turning (ṣadʿan), meaning diverted you.
المصدع: طريق سهل في غلظ من الأرض
The maṣdaʿ: an easy path in a rough part of the land.
وجبل صادع: ذاهب في الأرض طولا
And a mountain (jabal) proceeding lengthwise (ṣādiʿ): going into the land lengthwise.
