وَقَدْ شَمَعَ يَشْمَعُ شَمْعًا وَشُمُوعًا وَمِشْمَعَةً إِذَا لَمْ يَجِدْ
And he experienced joy, jested, and played when he found something.
يُرِيدُ أَنَّهُ يَبْدَأُ أَضْيَافَهُ بِالمُزَاحِ لِيُؤْنِسَهُمْ بِذَلِكَ ثُمَّ يَأْتِيهِمْ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ بِالطَّعَامِ
He means that he begins with his guests with jesting to make them feel at ease, then he brings them food afterwards.
مَنْ تَتَبَّعَ المِشْمَعَةَ يَشْمَعِ اللَّهُ بِهِ
Whoever pursues mockery, Allah will make him a subject of mockery.
أَرَادَ، صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، أَنَّ مَنْ كَانَ مِنْ شَأْنِهِ العَبَثُ بِالنَّاسِ وَالِاسْتِهْزَاءُ أَصَارَهُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى إِلَى حَالَةٍ يُعْبَثُ بِهِ فِيهَا وَيُسْتَهْزَأُ مِنْهُ
He intended, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, that whoever makes a habit of trifling with people and mocking them, Allah Almighty will bring him to a state where he is trifled with and mocked.
إِذَا كُنَّا عِنْدَكَ رَقَّتْ قُلُوبُنَا وَإِذَا فَارَقْنَاكَ شَمَعْنَا النِّسَاءَ وَالأَوْلَادَ
When we are with you, our hearts soften, and when we leave you, we play with women and children.
أَي لَاعَبْنَا الأَهْلَ وَعَاشَرْنَاهُنَّ
Meaning, we played with our families and associated with them.
وَالشَّمَّاعُ: اللَّهْوُ وَاللَّعِبُ
And al-shamma': is amusement and play.
وَالشُّمُوعُ: الجَارِيَةُ اللَّعُوبُ الضَّحُوكُ الآلِنَسَةُ
And al-shumoo': is the playful, laughing, and amiable young woman.
وَقَدْ شَمَعَتْ تَشْمَعُ شَمْعًا وَشُمُوعًا
And she was playful, she jested with playfulness and merriment.
فَلَبِثْنَ حِينًا يَعْتَلِجْنَ بِرَوْضَةٍ، ... فَيَجِدُ حِينًا فِي المَرَاحِ وَيَشْمَعُ
So they stayed for a while wrestling in a meadow, ... and sometimes finds amusement in the open space and plays.
