يا هِنْدُ، ما أَسْرَعَ ما تَسَعْسَعَا، مِنْ بَعْدِ ما كانَ فَتًى سَرْعَرَعَا
O Hind, how quickly he has tas'as'a, after he was a vigorous young man.
أَخْبَرَتْ صَاحِبَتَهَا عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ قَدْ أَدْبَرَ وَفَنِيَ إِلَّا أَقَلَّهُ.
She informed her companion about him that he had passed and perished except for a little.
والسَّعْسَعَةُ: الفَنَاءُ ونَحْوُ ذلك؛
And al-sa'sa'ah: perishing and the like;
وَمِنْهُ قَوْلُهُمْ: تَسَعْسَعَ الشَّهْرُ إِذَا ذَهَبَ أَكْثَرُهُ.
And from it is their saying: the month tas'as'a when most of it has passed.
فَقَالَ: إِنَّ الشَّهْرَ قَدْ تَسَعْسَعَ فَلَوْ صُمْنَا بَقِيَّتَهُ،
So he said: The month has tas'as'a, so let us fast its remainder,
وتَسَعْسَعَ أي أدْبَرَ وفَنِيَ إِلَّا أَقَلَّهُ،
And tas'as'a means it passed and perished except for a little,
وَسَعْسَعَ شَعْرَهُ وسَغْسَغَهُ إِذَا رَوَّاهُ بِالدُّهْنِ.
And he sa'sa'a his hair and saghsagha-ed it if he moistened it with oil.
وتَسَعْسَعَتْ حَالُ فُلَانٍ إِذَا انْحَطَّتْ.
And so-and-so's condition tas'as'a if it declined.
وتَسَعْسَعَ فَمُهُ إِذَا انْحَسَرَتْ شَفَتُهُ عَنْ أَسْنَانِهِ.
And his mouth tas'as'a if his lip receded from his teeth.
وَكُلُّ شَيْءٍ بَلِيَ وتَغَيَّرَ إِلَى الفَسَادِ، فَقَدْ تَسَعْسَعَ.
And everything that becomes worn out, changes, and decays, has tas'as'a.
والسَّعْسَعُ: الذِّئْبُ؛
And al-sa'sa': the wolf;
والسَّعْسَعُ الأَطْلَسُ، فِي حَلْقِهِ ... عِكْرِشَةٌ تَنْئَقُ فِي اللَّهْزَمِ
And the grey wolf, in its throat... a rattling sound that cries in the throat.
سَعْ سَعْ: زَجْرٌ لِلْمَعْزِ.
Sa' sa': is a driving away sound for goats.
والسَّعْسَعَةُ: زَجْرُ المِعْزَى إِذَا قَالَ: سَعْ سَعْ،
And al-sa'sa'ah: is the driving away of goats when one says: sa' sa',
وَسَعْسَعْتُ بِهَا مِنْ ذَلِكَ.
And I sa'sa'a-ed them (goats) with that.
