And the hand and foot crack with zal'an and they became cracked: they cracked from the outside and inside, and this is al-zal'u. It was said: al-zal'u is the cracking of their exterior, but if it is in their interior, it is al-kal'u, and it is al-zalū'u.

إن المحرم إذا تزلعت رجله فله أن يدهنها ، أي تشققت.

Indeed, the pilgrim whose leg cracks, he may anoint it, meaning it has become chapped.

مر به قوم وهم محرمون وقد تزلعت أيديهم وأرجلهم فسألوه: بأي شيء نداويها؟ فقال: بالدهن

Some people passed by him while they were in the state of Ihram and their hands and feet had become chapped, so they asked him: 'With what shall we treat them?' He said: 'With oil.'

كان رسول الله، صلى الله عليه وسلم، يصلي حتى تزلع قدماه.

وازدلعت الشجرة إذا قطعتها، وهو افتعال من الزلع، والدال في ازدلعت كانت في الأصل تاء.

And you cut down the tree if you cut it, and it is an افتعال from al-zal'u, and the dāl in izdala'tu was originally a tā'.

وزلع جلده بالنار يزلعه زلعا فتزلع: أحرقه.

And he burned his skin with fire, burning it with zal'an, so it became burned: he burned it.

وزلع رأسه كسلعه؛ عن ابن الأعرابي.

And his head cracked like a sore; from Ibn al-A'rabi.

المزلع الذي قد انقشر جلد قدمه عن اللحم.

Al-muzla'u: one whose foot skin has peeled off down to the flesh.

والزلعة: جراحة فاسدة، وقد زلعت جراحته زلعا أي فسدت.

And al-zal'atu: a spoiled wound, and his wound became spoiled with zal'an, meaning it festered.

وتزلع ريشه: ذهب؛ أنشد ثعلب:

And his feathers fell off: they went away; Tha'lab recited:

كلا قادميها تفضل الكف نصفه، ... كجيد الحبارى ريشه قد تزلعا

Each of its forelegs, the palm measures half of it, ... like the neck of the hubara, its feathers have fallen off.

وأزلعت فلانا في كذا أي أطمعته.

And I made so-and-so covetous of such-and-such, meaning I made him desire it.

والزلوع والسلوع: صدوع في الجبل في عرضه.

والزيلع: ضرب من الودع صغار، وقيل: هو خرز معروف تلبسه النساء.

يقال زلعته وسلقته ودثثته وعصوته وهروته وفأوته بمعنى واحد.

It is said: zalactuhu, salaqtuhu, daththaththuhu, 'asawtuhu, harawtuhu, and fa'awtuhu all mean the same thing.
