لئن لقيتك بخنعة لا تفلت مني؛
If I meet you with stinginess, you will not escape me;
يا رب أعوذ بك من الخنوع والكنوع، فسألته عنهما فقال الخنوع الغدر.
O Lord, I seek refuge in You from al-khunūʿ and al-kunūʿ, so I asked him about them, and he said al-khunūʿ is betrayal.
والخانع: الذي يضع رأسه للسوءة يأتي أمرا قبيحا فيرجع عاره عليه فيستحيي منه وينكس رأسه.
And al-khāniʿ: he who lowers his head in shame for an evil deed, commits an ugly act, and its shame returns upon him, so he feels shy and lowers his head.
الخنبع والخنبعة جميعا: القنبعة تخاط كالمقنعة تغطي المتنين إلا أنها أكبر من القنبعة.
Al-khunbaʿ and al-khunbaʿah both: a sewn head covering like a mask that covers the shoulders, but it is larger than a qanbuʿah.
والخنبعة: غلاف نور الشجرة.
And al-khunbaʿah: the sheath of a tree's blossom.
