And ikhtaraʿa the thing: to cut it off and separate it, and it is from this because splitting is cutting.

والاختراع والاختزاع: الخيانة والأخذ من المال

And al-ikhtirāʿ and al-ikhtizāʿ: treachery and taking from wealth.

And al-ikhtirāʿ: consumption.

ينفق على المغيبة من مال زوجها ما لم تخترع ماله أي ما لم تقتطعه وتأخذه

She spends on the absent one from her husband's wealth as long as she does not ikhtaraʿ his wealth, meaning she does not cut it off and take it.

والاختراع هاهنا الخيانة وليس بخارج من معنى القطع

And al-ikhtirāʿ here means treachery and is not outside the meaning of cutting.

ويقال: اخترع فلان عودا من الشجرة إذا كسرها

And it is said: So-and-so ikhtaraʿa a stick from the tree if he broke it.

واخترع الشيء: ارتجله، وقيل: اخترعه اشتقه، ويقال: أنشأه وابتدعه، والاسم الخرعة

And ikhtaraʿa the thing: to improvise it; and it is said: to derive it, and it is said: to create it and originate it, and the noun is al-khurʿah.

خرع الرجل إذا استرخى رأيه بعد قوة وضعف جسمه بعد صلابة

The man kharaʿa if his opinion became slack after strength, and his body weak after firmness.
