I have not seen anyone more eloquent than the slave-girl of the family of so-and-so. I asked her: How was the rain at your place? She replied: We received abundant rain as much as we wished, and he narrated it thus with a kasra.

يقال للإماء قد بعن، أشموا الباء شيئا من الرفع

It is said of female slaves that they have been sold, they give the baa' a slight raising (damma).

وباع الفرس في جريه أي أبعد الخطو، وكذلك الناقة

And the horse stretched out in its run, meaning it took a longer stride, and likewise the she-camel.

فعد طلابها وتسل عنها بحرف، قد تغير إذا تبوع

So pursue its tracks and be patient with it, with a letter that has changed if it stretches its stride.

يقال: باع وانباع وتبوع

It is said: baa'a, inbaa'a, and tabuu'.

وانباع العرق: سال

And the sweat flowed: it ran.

ينباع من ذفرى غضوب جسرة زيافة مثل الفنيق المكدم

It flows from the hump of a fierce, strong she-camel, a swift runner like a well-fed young camel.

And every sweating animal is a munbaa' (flowing).

وانباعت الحية إذا بسطت نفسها بعد تحويها لتساور

And the snake stretched out if it extended itself after coiling to strike.

ثمت ينباع انبياع الشجاع

Then he surges forth with the surge of a lion.

مطرِق لينباع

Silent to surge forth.

لفاتح البيع يوم رؤيتها وكان قبل انبياعه لكد

To reveal the leniency on the day of seeing her, and before his leniency it was difficult.

انبياعه مسامحته بالبيع

His inbiyaa' (lenient selling) is his leniency in the sale.

يقال: قد انباع لي إذا سامح في البيع، وأجاب إليه وإن لم يسامح

It is said: 'He has inbaa'a' to me if he is lenient in the sale, and he agreed to it even if he was not lenient.

والبيع والانبياع الانبساط

And al-bay' and al-inbiyaa' mean expansion/leniency.

لفاتح البيع أي لكاشف الانبساط إليها ولفرج الخطو إليها

To reveal the leniency, meaning to reveal the expansion towards her and the opening of the stride towards her.

بع بع إذا أمرته بمد باعيه في طاعة الله

Baa' baa' if you command him to extend his arms in obedience to God.

ومثل مخرنبق لينباع أي ساكت ليثب أو ليسطو

And like a slinking one to surge forth, meaning silent to leap or to attack.
