وقيل: الشواظ لهب النار ولا يكون إلا من نار وشيء آخر يخلطه
And it was said: Al-shawāẓ is the flame of fire and it is only from fire and something else mixed with it.
أكثر القراء قرؤوا شواظ، وكسر الحسن الشين
Most of the reciters read it as shawāẓ, and Al-Hasan broke the shīn.
كما قالوا لجماعة البقر صوار وصوار
Just as they said for a herd of cattle ṣawār and ṣawār.
يقال لدخان النار شواظ وشواظ
The smoke of fire is called shawāẓ and shawāẓ.
ولحرها شواظ وشواظ
And its heat is shawāẓ and shawāẓ.
وحر الشمس شواظ [شواظ]
And the heat of the sun is shawāẓ [shawāẓ].
وأصابني شواظ من الشمس
And I was afflicted by the heat of the sun.
