And anything that weighs you down, it has burdened you, and you are burdened by it.
وَأَمْرٌ بَاهِظٌ أَي شَاقٌّ
And an arduous matter means difficult.
سَمِعْتُ أَعْرَابِيًّا مِنْ أَشْجَعَ يَقُولُ: بَهَضَنِي الأَمْرُ وَبَهَظَنِي
I heard an Arab from Ashja' say: The matter burdened me and burdened me.
وَيُقَالُ: أَبْهَظَ حَوْضَهُ مَلأَهُ
And it is said: He filled his basin, meaning he filled it.
وَالقَرْنُ المُبْهَظُ: المَغْلُوبُ
And the defeated one is the vanquished.
وَبَهَظَ رَاحِلَتَهُ يَبْهَظُهَا بَهْظًا: أَوْقَرَهَا وَحَمَلَ عَلَيْهَا فَأَتْعَبَهَا
And he burdened his riding animal, he burdens it with a burden: he loaded it and placed upon it, thus tiring it.
وَكُلُّ مَنْ كُلِّفَ مَا لَا يُطِيقُهُ أَوْ لَا يَجِدُهُ، فَهُوَ مُبْهَظٌ
And whoever is tasked with what he cannot bear or does not find, he is burdened.
وَبَهَظَ الرَّجُلَ: أَخَذَ بِفَقَمِهِ أَي بِذَقْنِهِ وَلِحْيَتِهِ
And he seized the man by his jaw, meaning by his chin and beard.
وَبَهَظْتُهُ أَخَذْتُ بِفَقَمِهِ وَبِفَغْمِهِ
And I seized him by his jaw and by his nose.
أَرَادَ بِفَقَمِهِ فَمَهُ، وَبِفَغْمِهِ أَنْفَهُ، وَالفَقْمَانِ هُمَا اللَّحْيَانِ
He meant by his jaw his mouth, and by his nose his nose, and the two jaws are the two cheeks.
وَأَخَذَ بِفُغْوِهِ أَي بِفَمِهِ
And he took him by his mouth, meaning by his mouth.
وَرَجُلٌ أَفْغَى وَامْرَأَةٌ فَغْوَاءُ إِذَا كَانَ فِي فَمِهِ مَيْلٌ
And a man is 'afgha' and a woman is 'faghwaa'' if there is a crookedness in his/her mouth.
