And it is said regarding travel: wakhata yakhitu if he hurried, and likewise the ostrich and its like hurried.
والوخط: لغة في الوخد، وهو سرعة السير.
And al-wakhṭ: a dialect for al-wakhd, which is the speed of travel.
وظليم وخاط: سريع، وكذلك البعير؛
And a fast ostrich: wakhāṭ, and likewise a camel;
عني وعن شمردل مجفال، ... أعيط وخاط الخطى طوال
From me and from a swift, wide-striding one, ... long-necked and swift of stride, tall.
والميخط: الداخل.
And al-mīkhaṭ: the one who enters.
ووخط أي دخل.
And wakhata, meaning he entered.
وفروج واخط: جاوز حد الفراريج وصار في حد الديوك.
And waṭi'ah: surpassed the stage of chicks and became in the stage of roosters.
والوخط: الطعن الخفيف ليس بالنافذ، وقيل: هو أن يخالط الجوف.
And al-wakhṭ: the light stab that is not penetrating, and it was said: it is to mix with the interior.
إذا خالطت الطعنة الجوف ولم تنفذ فذلك الوخض والوخط، ووخطه بالرمح ووخضه،
If the stab mixes with the interior and does not penetrate, then that is al-wakhḍ and al-wakhṭ, and he stabbed him with the spear and pierced him,
الوخط الطعن النافذ، وقد وخطه وخطا؛
Al-wakhṭ is the penetrating stab, and he stabbed him, wakhṭan;
وطعن وخاط، وكذلك رمح وخاط؛
And a stab that is wakhāṭ, and likewise a spear that is wakhāṭ;
وخطا بماض في الكلى وخاط
He stabbed with a sharp [spear] in the kidneys and pierced.
ووخطه بالسيف: تناوله من بعيد، تقول: وخط فلان يوخط وخطا،
And he struck him with the sword: he reached for him from afar, you say: so-and-so strikes, yūkhitu, wakhṭan,
لم أسمع لغير الليث في تفسير الوخط أنه الضرب بالسيف، قال: وأراه أراد أنه يتناوله بذباب السيف طعنا لا ضربا.
I have not heard from anyone other than Al-Layth regarding the interpretation of al-wakhṭ that it is striking with a sword, he said: and I think he meant that he reaches for it with the tip of the sword, stabbing, not striking.
والوخط في البيع: أن تربح مرة وتخسر أخرى.
And al-wakhṭ in trade: to profit once and lose another time.
ووخط النعال: خفقها.
And wakhṭ al-ni'āl: their slapping sound.
فسمع وخط نعالنا خلفه فوقف ثم قال: امضوا،
So he heard the slapping sound of our sandals behind him, so he stopped and then said: Proceed,
إني سمعت وخط نعالكم خلفي فتخوفت أن يتداخلني شيء فقدمتكم بين يدي ومشيت خلفكم،
Indeed, I heard the slapping sound of your sandals behind me, so I feared that something might affect me, so I put you ahead of me and walked behind you,
فلما بلغ البقيع وقف على قبرين فقال: هذا قبر فلان، لقد ضرب ضربة تقطعت منها أوصاله، ثم وقف على الآخر فقال مثل ذلك،
When he reached Al-Baqee', he stopped at two graves and said: This is the grave of so-and-so, he was struck a blow from which his limbs were severed, then he stopped at the other and said the same,
أما هذا فكان يمشي بالنميمة، وأما هذا فكان لا يتنزه عن شيء من البول يصيبه.
As for this one, he used to walk with slander, and as for this one, he did not keep himself from any urine that might hit him.
ما أنتم ببارحين حتى يسمع وخط نعالكم أي خفقها وصوتها على الأرض.
You will not leave until you hear the wakhṭ of your sandals, meaning their slapping and their sound on the ground.
