يقال رماه الله بالنيط ورماه الله بنيطه أي بالموت الذي ينوطه
It is said, 'May God strike him with al-niyt' and 'May God strike him with niyṭuhu,' meaning with the death that He decrees.
لود معاوية أنه ما بقي من بني هاشم نافخ ضرمة إلا طعن في نيطه
Mu'awiyah wished that no one remained among the Banu Hashim who could blow on an ember, except that he would be struck in his niyṭ.
معناه إلا مات.
Its meaning is, except that he died.
والقياس النوط لأنه من ناط ينوط إذا علق
And the standard form is al-nawṭ because it is from nāṭa yanūṭu if it is hung.
غير أن الواو تعاقب الياء في حروف كثيرة.
Except that the waw replaces the ya' in many letters.
وقيل: النيط نياط القلب وهو العرق الذي القلب متعلق به.
And it was said: Al-niyṭ is the niyāṭ of the heart, which is the vessel to which the heart is attached.
وأشار إلى نياط قلبه.
And he pointed to the niyāṭ of his heart.
وأتاه نيطه أي أجله.
And his niyṭ came to him, meaning his appointed time.
ناط نيطا وانتاط: بعد.
Nāṭa niyṭan and intāṭa: to be distant.
والنيط: العين في البئر قبل أن تصل إلى القعر.
And al-niyṭ: the source of water in a well before it reaches the bottom.
