And in the rare sayings of the Arabs: So-and-so was harsh with his debtor when he shouted at the top of his voice, and likewise 'jawaqa', 'wathatha', and 'jawara'.

وقعط عمامته يقعطها قعطا واقتعطها: أدارها على رأسه ولم يتلح بها، وقد نهي عنه.

And he wrapped his turban, he wraps it 'qaṭan' and 'iqtaṭa-ha': he wound it around his head without tucking it under his chin, and it was forbidden.

وفي الحديث: أنه أمر المتعمم بالتلحي ونهى عن الاقتعاط ؛ هو شد العمامة من غير إدارة تحت الحنك.

And in the Hadith: that he ordered the one wearing a turban to tuck it under his chin and forbade 'al-iqṭāṭ'; it is wrapping the turban without passing it under the chin.

قال ابن الأثير: الاقتعاط هو أن يعتم بالعمامة ولا يجعل منها شيئا تحت ذقنه.

Ibn Al-Athir said: 'Al-iqṭāṭ' is to wear a turban without making any part of it go under one's chin.

وقال الزمخشري المقعطة والمقعط ما تعصب به رأسك، والمقعطة العمامة منه، وجاء فلان مقتعطا إذا جاء متعمما طابقيا، وقد نهي عنها، ونحو ذلك قال الليث، ويقال: قعطته قعطا؛ وأنشد: طهية مقعوط عليها العمائم

And Al-Zamakhshari said: 'Al-muqaṭṭaṭah' and 'al-muqaṭṭaṭ' is what you wrap your head with, and 'al-muqaṭṭaṭah' is the turban from it, and so-and-so came 'muqtaṭiṭan' if he came wearing a turban in a certain style, and it was forbidden, and similar to that was said by Al-Layth, and it is said: I 'qaṭṭaṭ-tu-hu' 'qaṭan'; and he recited: A young woman with turbans wrapped around her.

القاعط اليابس. وقعط شعره من الحفوف إذا يبس.

Al-Qāʿiṭ: the dry. And his hair became 'qaṭan' from dryness if it became dry.

والقعوطة: تقويض البناء مثل القعوشة.

And 'al-quʿūṭah': the demolition of a building, like 'al-quʿūshah'.

الأزهري: قعوطوا بيوتهم إذا قوضوها وجوروها.

Al-Azhari: They 'qaʿawṭū' their houses if they demolished and ruined them.

وأقعطت الرجل إقعاطا إذا ذللته وأهنته.
