It is said: 'aqsaṭa' (to be just) 'yuqsitu' (he is just), so he is 'muqsiṭ' (just) if he is fair, and 'qasaṭa' (to be unjust) 'yaqsiṭu' (he is unjust), so he is 'qāsiṭ' (unjust) if he deviates.
يخفض القسط ويرفعه ؛ القسط: الميزان
He lowers the balance and raises it; al-qisṭ: the scale.
أراد أن الله يخفض ويرفع ميزان أعمال العباد المرتفعة إليه وأرزاقهم النازلة من عنده
He meant that Allah lowers and raises the scales of the deeds of His servants that ascend to Him and their provisions that descend from Him.
والقسط: الحصة والنصيب.
And al-qisṭ: the share and the portion.
أخذ كل واحد من الشركاء قسطه أي حصته.
Each of the partners took his share, meaning his portion.
تقسطوا الشيء بينهم: تقسموه على العدل والسواء.
They divided the thing among themselves: they divided it with justice and equality.
والقسط، بالكسر: العدل، وهو من المصادر الموصوف بها كعدل
And al-qisṭ, with kasra: justice, and it is one of the masdars described like 'adl (justice).
ميزان قسط، وميزانان قسط، وموازين قسط.
A just scale, two just scales, and just scales.
ونضع الموازين القسط ؛ أي ذوات القسط.
And We shall set up the scales of justice; meaning, possessing justice.
وزنوا بالقسطاس المستقيم*
And weigh with the straight balance*.
والإقساط والقسط: العدل.
And al-iqsāṭ and al-qisṭ: justice.
إذا حكموا عدلوا وإذا قسموا أقسطوا أي عدلوا
When they judged, they were just, and when they divided, they were just (aqsaṭū means 'they were just').
وفي حديث علي، رضوان الله عليه: أمرت بقتال الناكثين والقاسطين والمارقين ؛
And in the narration of Ali, may Allah be pleased with him: I was commanded to fight the oath-breakers, the unjust, and the renegades;
والقاسطون: أهل صفين لأنهم جاروا في الحكم وبغوا عليه
And the unjust (al-qāsiṭūn): the people of Ṣiffīn because they deviated in judgment and rebelled against him.
وأقسطوا إن الله يحب المقسطين .
And act justly, for Allah loves those who act justly.
وأما القاسطون فكانوا لجهنم حطبا
But as for the deviators, they were fuel for hell.
والقسط: الجور.
And al-qisṭ: injustice.
والقسوط: الجور والعدول عن الحق
And al-qusuṭ: injustice and deviation from the truth.
يقال: قسط على عياله النفقة تقسيطا إذا قترها
It is said: He was stingy with the expenses for his family (taqsīṭan) if he reduced them.
والقسط: مكيال، وهو نصف صاع، والفرق ستة أقساط.
And al-qisṭ: a measure, which is half a ṣāʿ, and a farq is six aqsāṭ.
إن النساء من أسفه السفهاء إلا صاحبة القسط والسراج
Indeed, women are from the most foolish of fools, except for the one who attends to the qisṭ (measure/vessel) and the lamp.
أنه أجرى للناس المديين والقسطين ؛
That he granted the people two mudd and two qisṭs (of oil);
والقسط: طول الرجل وسعتها.
And al-qisṭ: the length and breadth of a man's leg.
والقسط: يبس يكون في الرجل والرأس والركبة
And al-qisṭ: stiffness that occurs in the leg, head, or knee.
والناقة قسطاء، وقيل: الأقسط من الإبل الذي في عصب قوائمه يبس خلقة
And the she-camel is qasṭāʾ, and it is said: Al-aqsaṭ among camels is one whose leg tendons have congenital stiffness.
والقسط خلاف الحنف؛
And al-qisṭ is the opposite of being knock-kneed;
إذا كان البعير يابس الرجلين فهو أقسط، ويكون القسط يبسا في العنق؛
If a camel has stiff legs, it is aqsaṭ, and al-qisṭ can be stiffness in the neck;
قسطت عظامه قسوطا إذا يبست من الهزال؛
His bones became stiff (qasūṭan) if they dried out from emaciation;
في رجله قسط، وهو أن تكون الرجل ملساء الأسفل كأنها مالج.
He has qisṭ in his leg, which is for the leg to be smooth at the bottom as if it were a malij (a type of sandal).
والقسطانية والقسطاني: خيوط كخيوط قوس المزن تخيط بالقمر وهي من علامة المطر.
And al-qisṭāniyyah and al-qisṭānī: threads like the threads of the rain-bow that are sewn with the moon, and they are a sign of rain.
والقسطانة: قوس قزح؛
And al-qasṭānah: the rainbow;
يقال لقوس الله القسطاني؛
The bow of Allah is called al-qisṭānī;
والقسطناس: الصلاءة.
And al-qisṭanās: the stone slab.
والقسط، بالضم: عود يتبخر به لغة في الكسط عقار من عقاقير البحر
And al-qusṭ, with ḍamma: wood used for incense, a variant of al-kasṭ, a sea medicine.
والقسط عود يجاء به من الهند يجعل في البخور والدواء
And al-qisṭ is wood brought from India used in incense and medicine.
وقسطة ما شانها غفارها يقال: هي الساق
And a qisṭah that its covering adorns, it is said: it is the leg.
