And Al-Adabs Al-Kinani said: It is said 'ta'awwatat' if the male covered her and she did not conceive.
بكرة عائط، وجمعها عيط وهي تعيط
A young she-camel is 'a'it, and their plural is 'iyt, and she is 'ta'it (barren).
فأما التي تعتاط أرحامها فعائط عوط
But as for her whose wombs are barren, she is 'a'it 'awt.
يرعن إلى صوتي إذا ما سمعنه، ... كما ترعوي عيط إلى صوت أعيسا
They hasten to my voice when they hear it, ... like select she-camels respond to the voice of a man.

It is said of a she-camel that has not conceived for years, not due to infertility: she has 'i'tiyatan', and she is 'mu'tat (barren).
قال: وربما كان اعتياطها من كثرة شحمها أي اعتاصت
He said: And perhaps her barrenness is due to her excessive fatness, meaning she became stuck.
قال: يقال اعتاطت وتعوطت وتعيطت
He said: It is said 'i'taatat', 'ta'awwatat', and 'ta'aytat'.
أنه بعث مصدقا فأتي بشاة شافع فلم يأخذها، فقال: ائتني بمعتاط
That he sent a tax collector and was brought a ewe with her lamb, and he did not take it, saying: Bring me a 'mu'tat (barren one).
والشافع التي معها ولدها
And the 'shafi'ah' is she who has her young with her.
وربما قالوا: اعتاط الأمر إذا اعتاص

وقال غيره: العيط خيار الإبل وأفتاؤها ما بين الحقة إلى الرباعية
And others said: 'Al-'ayt' are the choicest of camels and their prime, between the age of a mature female camel and one that has had four teeth.
