تمطو السرى بعنق عنطنط
He stretched out the night journey with a long-necked (neck).
ومن الناس من خص فقال: الطويل من الرجال.
And among people, some specified it, saying: the tall one among men.
وفي حديث المتعة: فتاة مثل البكرة العنطنطة أي الطويلة العنق مع حسن قوام،
And in the hadith of Mut'ah: a maiden like the 'buqrah al-ʿanṭanṭa', meaning the one with a long neck and a beautiful build.
وعنطها طول عنقها وقوامها، لا يجعل مصدر ذلك إلا العنط،
And her 'anṭ is the length of her neck and her build; the masdar for that is only 'al-ʿanṭ'.
قال الأزهري: ولو جاء في الشعر عنطنطتها في طول عنقها جاز ذلك في الشعر.
Al-Azhari said: And if 'ʿanṭanṭatuhā' came in poetry for the length of her neck, that would be permissible in poetry.
قال: وكذلك أسد غشمشم بين الغشم، ويوم عصبصب بين العصابة.
He said: And likewise, a fierce lion ('ghashamsham') from fierceness, and a day of intense cold ('ʿaṣbaṣab') from intense cold.
وأعنط: جاء بولد عنطنط.
And 'aʿnaṭa': he came with a long-necked offspring.
وفرس عنطنطة: طويلة؛ قال:
And a 'ʿanṭanṭa' horse: long; he said:
عنطنط تعدو به عنطنطه
Long-necked, she runs with her length.
والعنطنط: الإبريق لطول عنقه؛ قال ابن سيده: أنشدني بعض من لقيت:
And 'al-ʿanṭanṭ': the ewer, due to the length of its neck; Ibn Sidah said: someone I met recited to me:
فقرب أكواسا له وعنطنطا،
So he brought him cups and an ewer,
وجاء بتفاح كثير دوارك
And brought much round apples.
والعنطيان: أول الشباب، وهو فعليان، بكسر الفاء؛ عن أبي بكر بن السراج.
And 'al-ʿunṭiyān': the beginning of youth, and it is on the pattern of 'fiʿliyān', with a kasrah on the faa'; from Abu Bakr bin Al-Siraj.
