He forbade striking its trees; it is striking the trees with a stick so their leaves fall.

And I strike another [tree] so its leaves fall.
والناقة تختبط الشوك: تأكله
And the she-camel eats thorns: it eats them.
وخبط الليل يخبطه خبطا: سار فيه على غير هدى
And he traveled through the night, traveling through it without guidance.
وقولهم ما أدري أي خابط الليل هو أو أي خابط ليل هو أي أي الناس هو
And their saying: I don't know which traveler of the night he is, or which traveler of the night he is, meaning, who is he?
وخباط عشوات أي يخبط في الظلام
And Khabbāṭ 'ashawāt, meaning one who stumbles in the darkness.
وخبطه الشيطان وتخبطه: مسه بأذى وأفسده
And Satan afflicted him and confused him: he touched him with harm and corrupted him.
الذي يتخبطه الشيطان من المس
He whom Satan afflicts with madness.
وأعوذ بك أن يتخبطني الشيطان
And I seek refuge in You from Satan afflicting me.
وبفلان خبطة من مس
And so-and-so has an affliction from a touch (of jinn).
قالوا عليه خبطة جميلة أي مسحة جميلة في هيئته وسحنته
They said about him: a beautiful khabṭah, meaning a beautiful appearance in his form and complexion.

And Al-Khabṭ: seeking favor, he sought him, he sought him, and he sought him.
والمختبط: الذي يسألك بلا وسيلة ولا قرابة ولا معرفة
And Al-Mukhtabiṭ: is one who asks you without means, kinship, or acquaintance.
وخبطه بخير؛ أعطاه من غير معرفة بينهما
And he bestowed upon him with goodness; he gave him without prior acquaintance between them.
ومختبط لم يلق من دوننا كفى
And a seeker who found no one sufficient besides us.
ومحتبطات كالسعالي أرامل
And seekers like female demons, widows.
ويقال: خبطه إذا سأله
And it is said: he asked him when he asked him.
يوما ولا خابطا من ماله ورقا
A day, and not asking for a leaf from his wealth.
فإني لا أبخل بل أكون مختبطا لمن سألني وأعطيه من تالد مالي أي القديم
For I am not stingy, but rather I am a seeker for whoever asks me and I give him from my old wealth.
هو طالب الرفد من غير سابق معرفة ولا وسيلة، شبه بخابط الورق أو خابط الليل
He is a seeker of support without prior knowledge or means, likened to one who strikes leaves or one who travels at night.
والخباط: سمة تكون في الفخذ طويلة عرضا وهي لبني سعد
And Al-Khabbāṭ: is a brand mark that is long and wide on the thigh, and it belongs to Banu Sa'd.
وخبطه خبطا: وسمه بالخباط
And he branded him a branding: he marked him with Al-Khabbāṭ.
وخبط الرجل خبطا: طرح نفسه حيث كان ونام
And the man lay down and slept: he threw himself down where he was and slept.
خبط مثل هبغ إذا نام
Khabata is like Habagha if he sleeps.
والخبطة: كالزكمة تأخذ قبل الشتاء، وقد خبط، فهو مخبوط
And Al-Khabṭah: is like a cold that takes hold before winter, and he has become afflicted, so he is afflicted.
والخبط والخبطة والخبيط: الماء القليل يبقى في الحوض
And Al-Khabṭ, Al-Khabṭah, and Al-Khabīṭ: is the little water that remains in the basin.
إن تسلم الدفواء والضروط، يصبح لها في حوضها خبيط
If Al-Dafwā' and Al-Ḍarūṭ survive, she will have a small amount of water in her basin.
والخبطة، بالكسر: اللبن القليل يبقى في السقاء، ولا فعل له
And Al-Khabṭah, with kasra: is the little milk that remains in the waterskin, and it has no verb.
الخبطة الجرعة من الماء تبقى في قربة أو مزادة أو حوض، ولا فعل لها
Al-Khabṭah is a sip of water remaining in a waterskin, a waterskin, or a basin, and it has no verb.
وهو ما بين الثلث إلى النصف من السقاء والحوض والغدير والإناء
And it is between a third and a half of the waterskin, basin, pond, and vessel.
وفي القربة خبطة من ماء وهو مثل الجرعة ونحوها
And in the waterskin is a khabṭah of water, which is like a sip and the like.
وكان ذلك بعد خبطة من الليل أي بعد صدر منه
And that was after a portion of the night, meaning after its beginning.
أتونا خبطة خبطة أي قطعة قطعة
They came to us piece by piece, meaning section by section.
