النثط التثقيل
Al-nuthṭ is the making heavy.
إن الله تعالى لما مد الأرض مادت فثنطها بالجبال أي شقها فصارت كالأوتاد لها
When Allah the Almighty spread out the earth, it shook, so He split it with the mountains, meaning He pierced it, and it became like pegs for it.
ونثطها بالآكام فصارت كالمثقلات لها
And He burdened it with hills, so it became like burdens for it.
فجعل الثنط شقا
So he made al-thanṭ a split.
وجعل النثط إثقالا
And he made al-nuthṭ burdens.
وهما حرفان غريبان
And they are two strange letters.
وما جاء إلا في حديث كعب
And it only came in the hadith of Ka'b.
ويروى بالباء بدل النون من التثبيط
And it is narrated with a 'b' instead of a 'n' from al-tathbīṭ.
وهو التعويق
And it is hindrance.
